It opens the door for it to go to courts and the lockout ruled illegal as well as the salary cap.

Or for courts to side with owners and rule that NHLPA bargained in bad faith

Then NHL can impliment its deal on its own terms (Also could open path to replacement players)

Most legal experts believe NHLPA case is not likely to succeed

NHLPA did not file disclaimer but will ask players for authorization again to do so if talks don't "soon" produce a deal

I still dare to believe in the 2012-2013 NHL season.

@ replacement players. You think the league is ****ed now, just wait until we watch a bunch of scrubs play.

Another detail emerging: NHL has upped its compliance buyout offer to 2 per team, up from 1 prior to 2013-14 season.

Talks going off rails today despite early progress

PA accusing NHL of hiding money now and NHLPA threatening to disclaim by end of day after new quick vote (Been informing there players to revote all day)

Funny ,, The NHL court case would get stronger as last disclaim vote was claimed to need 5 days ,, If new one takes just 24 hours NHL would have further proof it is just negotiating sham and players are bargaining in bad faith

Where are you hearing these things, BWC?

BTW, this from Dan Rosen

The first group session b/w the NHL and NHLPA is over. The sides are expected to get back together again today, but time is still TBD.
Talks are so off the rails, they're gonna meet again today!

Player told me "PA still feels NHL is purposely hiding money & that we've let all players know about it." This will take a little longer.

The small group meetings are over for now. It would appear this could be an interesting day and not in a good way. #NHL #NHLPA

Renaud Lavoie‏@RenLavoieRDS https://twitter.com/RenLavoieRDS/sta...92571240828928

NHLPA executive board will begin the process to have players approval to disclaim if no agreement is concluded by today.

Also the first meeting was fairly short ,, Shorter then expected actually

The money thing is one random tweet from a source that is supposed to be one unnamed player. LOL.

The vote is because the internal deadline is off.

NHL has also upped it's variance to 30%.

There were some concerns this morning with HRR package sent by league to players. NHLPA upset because it believes penalties...

Acusing? They know full well the owners are hiding money.

The players needing to vote to disclaim is common sense. What's funny is, everyone saying when they orginally decided to disclaim that it was a sham or a ploy, and now all of the sudden the NHL wants to negotiate. Maybe they are more scared than the anti-player people. Do you honestly think NHL owners want to see their franchise players become UFA's? (which is what would happen in any case if it went to the courts)

The owners are more scared they are going to have to open their books. They don't want to do that.

NHL has agreed to "restore" previous CBA penalties for "hiding" HRR. Sounds like a real waste of half a day, though.

#CBA Sounds like the HRR/penalty issue, although it has since been resolved, only helped to further erode trust between two sides.

Per @KatieStrangESPN, the pointless, since-decided skirmish today over HRR penalties has further hurt trust between the two sides. Terrific
Talks look about to breakdown as mistrust builds on both sides

I guess they have to figure out how much that is worth to them and offer it up.

Per source directly involved in negotiations, "a significant number of (CBA) issues" have been agreed upon... (1/3)
but "not all issues are of equal importance." There are several "fundamental issues" (ex: the cap) that still need to be agreed to... (2/3)
...once 2 sides get to that point, we're golden. But who knows when that'll happen / how long it'll takes. Meeting set for later today (3/3)

I think BWC is the only pessimistic person out of everyone out there reporting or even paying attention to the current situation. Even the people he quotes aren't nearly as pessimistic as him.

Also, how obvious is it that the owners were hiding HRR in the last deal? They tried to sneak a change in the penalties for 'hiding' revenue, and the PA caught it. If you are trying to lighten the penalty for hiding HRR, you are clearly hiding revenue. Another reason not to trust anything the owners/Bettman say about teams losing money.

Watching CTL on CSN really shows how terrible our coverage of hockey is in Chicago

The guys on panel dont even understand the issues involved and Hub Arkush going off on Gary Bettman for 48 gm schedule as being inhumane is laughable

Says players haven't played since last season and no one can get in shape/game ready by mid january

Most young guys are playing in AHL and alot of stars have been in Europe ,, The one's not over there have been practices for these last few months

@NYP_Brooksie: Belief within PA that Bettman/Batterman pulled bait and switch after initial disclaimer deadline passed.

Brooks is just PA mouthpiece

Will wait for respected non biased source

And Bettman/Batterman are lawyers and know the legal worthlessness of Disclaimer threat ,, They know they will easily defeat it in court so they aren't scared of it

Everything was so positive yesterday and last night. So depressed when I woke up today and it was the opposite feeling all day. Didn't necessarily expect to wake up to an ended lockout, but at least on the right track.
