Krishna what I am saying is this was a regular buyout by the team.
These are compliance buyouts coming out of the lockout. The player gets every cent of the money on his contract. Drury situation is different from a compliance buyout. It was just a normal end of the year buyout.
Didn't the Flyers compliance buyout LeClair last time when he had back injuries??
What I am saying is a compliance buyout is different from a regular buyout under CBA terms.
Like Meltzer said....no matter what this next CBA is not going to be good for the Flyers. Holmgren is going to have to be really savy...which scares me.
It'll definitely suck. But one thing I trust the Flyers on is being creative with the cap and trades. Remember, it's not only Homer, Clarke's still there, too. Also Homer is a great judge of talent, he'll find someone to play on this team if he has to make a trade.
Just have to hope that there won't be a Gagne-like situation where you don't have any market at all for the player you try to unload.
On the flipside, the Flyers got lucky that Suter and Parise didn't choose to come here. Weber's contract also would hurt. So with Giroux not yet signed, we don't really have that huge albatross right now. Bryz' caphit can be acceptable if he plays like he can and Briere doesn't have a lot of years left.
The Wild btw would have 50% of the cap invested in 4 (!) players in 13/14.
I doubt they buyout Bryz unless they have a plan to get another goalie...whoever that may be b/c we all know Leighton is NOT and was NEVER NHL material....

Yeah, it matters very much. Doesn't make sense to unload one contract and be forced to hand the same kind of contract to the next goalie who won't be a sureshot.

this org had been really good at drafting with the few picks we have. Drafting is going to be much more important now.

Prongo, all I see in the CBA about compliance buyouts is :
Compliance Buyouts.
a. There shall be a six (6) day period commencing on July 23, 2005 and ending at
5:00 p.m. New York time on July 29, 2005, during which Clubs may elect to
terminate and buy out SPCs of Players, and any buyout made during this time
period shall be deemed to be a "Compliance Buyout" as provided for in Article 50.
b. A Player that has been bought out under these Compliance Buyout provisions
shall be prohibited from rejoining the Prior Club that bought him out (via resigning, Assignment, Waiver claim or otherwise) for the duration of the 2005-06
League Year.
And the payment for that is over the length of the normal contract.

Definitely...no trading draft picks like chiclets! Moreover, the Flyers have to reconstitute that D corps somehow. We need a couple of bonafide D men with Timonen sundowning...

it's going to be back to mid level journeymen on short deals or pray to the lord we draft someone...thats the price of paying the other players that we have.
Contracts are going to likely go down...and there will be more moving and shaking in the offseason as teams readjust to the lower cap...so it's hard to say who will be available.

Briere isn't really showing up in the regular season and only does while in the playoffs. For his caphit, we need him all the time..
Bryz isn't really a viable option. As others said, you can hope another goalie gets bought out and try to sign them. But there's so many teams trying to get goalies that it's not really a good time to bet on the market

I like Backstrom, and I also don't think they will resign him with their cap situation. They will be hurting just as bad as the Bruins when the new deal is finalized(if it is). I have always like Backstrom too, and Minny has young cheap goal tending that are very good.

There's more than 5 teams that would line up to sign him even at his current price.
Everyone on here complains about not wanting goalies that make too much.
Backstrom is going to get more than Bryz would.
The whole reason we would buy out bryz is for a cheaper goalie to save space on the cap. Not to sign a more expensive one.
I never said buy out Bryz because I want a cheaper goalie. Bryz contract is horrible, and Backstrom IMO is a better keeper than him. He wouldn't come on a long term contract either. Maybe 3 years. It would be worth it in my book to get rid of Bryz contract to but him out and spend 5.5-6 million on Backstrom.
Also hopefully Backstrom would come here because what teams need a starter? Toronto? Who else? San Jose? Who wants to play in Toronto? Besides every good old Canadian boy of course.
