This is going downhill fast, season looks to be lost if they can't PULL TOGETHER on the pension issues!

This is one hell of a "partnership" the NHL sold us on in 2005 when this CBA was signed.

Not to mention actually having penalties to lying about HRR, because if there were no penalties, you know it would happen.

I honestly can not/will not believe that talks blow up and a season is cancelled with the reported issues remaining in the table.

There isn't much left to do here.

I give both sides huge kudos to meetings the past few days but I'm getting the feeling talks are going to break down soon. Seems like both sides are more concerned about looking good than coming to a settlement which is a shame and will only ruin the NHL in the long term.

So the NHL tried to pull a fast one and change the penalty for hiding HRR without mentioning that they had done so, the players caught them and demanded the old definition, and by HFBoards logic it's the players causing all the problems.

The only good thing right now is that we don't really know anything. Other than this trust issue. Everyone is jumping to conclusions again, which is expected, but also premature.

I can't believe this is even happening.
Unions try to destroy the golden rule. But it won't happen here!

prospose something bad, then prospose the same thing just reworded, then propose the same thing hidden. Thats what the PA basically did for 3 months.

Why can't both sides just split down the middle on all issues?

I hear you but again, that's really just a player vs. player issue. I don't consider that much of a concession. That's just saying a different way of distributing salary between players.

Yet we conveniently forget how the players allllllll did one thing during the players - owners meeting, only to come back the next morning and change their tune in a complete role reversal because of Fehr.

Yeah, let's pin all of this on the owners.

BOTH sides are playing games. So let's stop acting like a bunch of 23 year olds aren't playing any games.

Why the hell not? If the players go in and change their HRR proposal next time around should the owners not object?

Probably will. But the deadline is still too far out.

so did the owners. Oh wait, on this site we only listen to Bettman's interpretation of things.

What an outrageous suggestion!!!!!!
The idea here is to nickel and dime the other side on each and very issue. What you are suggesting could have resulted in a deal back in October.

I swear, even after a CBA is eventually signed people are still going to be posting that they think the season is going to be lost. Be realistic, neither side can bear a lost season.

I agree, which is why I don't understand why owners wanted more restrictions back then. Players have already conceded 7% of the HRR, no cap on escrow. Time for the Owners to back off the $60MM cap and the pension restrictions.

I said early today that this was going to be the day the talks ended.

Sides have too many issues and are too far apart to reach a deal for the season. They just don't work fast enough.

Because the objective of each respective side is to 'win'.
