I thought they already had an update this morning?
They updated them this morning, then met, now they're updating them again.

Hopefully they'll have the call at 5, then meet with the NHL again around 8.

I would LOVE to see Bettman and Jacobs tell the players in a meeting they are just employees and then laugh at how fast this process crumbles to the ground.
Some of my dislike for the NHLPA comes from their venom spewed about the very folks who write their paychecks; about the folks who attempt to make the league profitable; and specifically about the guy they will gladly take the Stanley Cup from when it is won.

It's a major kick in the teeth to the paying customer in cities (Vancouver, Toronto, New York, Boston etc) who pay the highest prices and sell out. Meanwhile, with a lower floor, teams in bad markets who have low prices get to continue running their business poorly and make money doing it.

**** the owners.

I was 50/50 before. No longer. As a fan of a well run, profitable team I can not tolerate a league that changes the rules so quickly, forcing my GM to partially dismantle his team just so garbage market teams can stop losing their shirts.

I hope the players stand firm and the season gets **** canned. Dropping the cap to 60 AND getting unlimited escrow proves the owners' greed. Instead of a triple they are trying to hit a home run with this CBA.
Making money in a "bad" market isn't a good thing? Get off your ****ing high horse.

There ya go! We are basically there. I don't see why we need more than one more long meeting to get this done. Get this done tonight at the meeting.

Please, I'm begging.

Thanks.

Maybe the PA misunderstood the mediator wanting to meet at 9 again to mean 9 at night

Just chill out lol.

Neither side is going to give in until they have to which would be the 9th or the 10th.

Neither side can afford to lose this season and they both know that. Which makes agreeing even harder because they're waiting to see who caves first. But somebody will cave. Guaranteed. The little bit that's left on the table will not be enough to cancel a whole season. As much as the NHL wants the NHLPA to think that.

Maybe the players sense this is it and on the conference call say "were making a deal tonight"

Owners say, let's figure out this cap and pension issue guys and get you back on the ice.

Maybe....just maybe...

If the NHLPA is serious about DOI and not using it as a bargaining tactic, than the NHL should stop negotiations now. Why talk with an organization that doesn't even want to exist?

Fehr was all about the mediators, until the NHL started following what the mediator wanted, then Fehr decided mediator isn't so important to follow.

Whatever it takes to drag things out to the last second.

Uhm, maybe they want to update the membership on what happened today? Nah, not necessary, players can just come to this thread to see what is going on.

and a 6pm vote for DOI again.

Not taking either side here, but could you imagine if the winning team just didn't take the cup from Bettman, If they refused to hoist the trophy in his presence? That would make for FANTASTIC drama, blowing up every hockey message board across the globe.

A bit of trivia worth considering for those who are worried about asterisks: the Stanley Cup has been awarded to a team that played 48 or fewer regular season games 85 times.

I completely disagree with the "neither side can afford to lose this season" The damage has already been done to the league because this will kill the growth of the league. All diehard fans will be back (that is why we waste our days here hoping for a deal) but this lockout is going to keep the casuals away. The length of this lockout has already done damage to the $$$. I really think the cancellation of the season is just a formality (but that is just me).

I do agree, if there were to be a deal, one side would HAVE to cave. There is no middle ground here, and that is a shame.

Beat your dog hard enough the first time, you don't have to beat him nearly as hard the second time around. Even old dogs learn.

You're kidding yourself if you don't think that same venom is being spewed against the players by the owners, but it's a lot easier to keep a leash on 30 people than 700+.

As far as I know they had one 'small' meeting to hash out the HRR penalties definition. That kind of update can take place over an e-mail. I'm not sure they really met on anything else today, maybe there was a pension group?
