Of course, if they took those proposed deals. Though, there's this thing called negotiating which would have got them to where they are now if they had the sense to actually go through with said process. Instead, they allowed those who they entrusted to do not much of anything and mostly just threw temper tantrums.

they did nothing by design. for whatever reason the frustration tactics are getting them to the same place they might have been months ago. yeah, they whittled the NHL offer down so ****ing good job on tossing half a season playing the waiting game when you could have actually started bargaining earlier. I mean real bargaining where you lay out all your key points at once instead of stringing it along.

They need some nuclear icebreakers from Russia instead.

NHL wasn't really serious about negotiating until the last couple weeks either.

Um... They were the only ones attempting to do so.

2 compliance buyouts? Can we trade ours for draft picks? Who the hell do we need to use 2 of them on, Powe and Prosser for a combined $2m?

Uhm, wut? You mean putting out the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth proposals is negotiating?

I disagree. I call that beating your head against the brick wall.

Agreed, the only time the NHL got serious was late October for the Nov 2 season but when that didn't work they refused to negotiate off counters.

I mean, look how pissed Bettman was a few weeks ago when the players gave a counterproposal...now they are countering every two days.

THAT is a negotiation. Takes two sides. Previously neither side wanted to negotiate for real.

Had a good laugh at this quote in the comments section of Russo's latest blog:

Does the compliant buyout allow them to sack LaPanta?

Also talk of moving the CBA expiration date from 9/15 up to 6/30. That would create some urgency in getting a deal done. No free agency in that final year...

Makes sense. Signing all of those contracts at the end didn't really reflect well on anybody, mainly the owners side.

Would you give up two weeks of hockey to push back another lockout by a year? I would.

Get it right, get a 10-year-deal done.

Ohhhh good. That's just grand. Wonderful. Fabulous, even. This is exactly what I always wanted to happen. Of course an honest, trustworthy individual such as Bettman followed through on his word! Now we'll have hockey in the next week!

Sarcasm should be obvious, but in case this disclaimer is actually needed, please see a tech about having your sarcasm detector repaired or replaced.

LOL!!! Did anybody here honestly believe a deal was going to get done? Nuke the damn season already so we don't have to keep getting our hopes up momentarily (not that the last few days got my hopes up in the least bit anyway).

Seriously if you can't ride it out for another week just shut off the Twitter. Nothing's going to be done one way or the other until next Thursday.

Exactly. Instead of checking everyone linked to hockey's twitter account, I'm personally just waiting for an official announcement (or if I read it from you posters here first).

he was pissed by their counter proposal because they were keying on things they hadn't been talking about before, right? it wasn't that they made a proposal.
one side was playing, the other wasn't. it was on purpose. let them negotiate against themselves. Like when you list a house, no offers come in, and you lower the price yourself to get interest. One side was willing to negotiate but had no interest shown by the other party.
