First, it can be euro not dollars. And second, they're perhaps tax free. So you gotta convince a 31 year old guy to leave everything and come to other country to do his job for much less money. Won't happen.

Twitter is about the least reliable source around unless it's from a well-known and connected reporter.

The original tweet was by Renaud Lavoie

Kristopher Letang will be in Russia soon. He'll play in the KHL until the lockout is over.
And via Molinari....

Quote:
THURSDAY, 03 JANUARY 2013 22:52 WRITTEN BY DAVE MOLINARI

The NHL lockout might be over in a matter of days -- the deadline for reaching a new collective bargaining agreement is Jan. 11 -- but Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is ready to take a temporary job in Russia.

Letang is expected to sign with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League, a team whose lineup includes Ilya Kovalchuk, Petr Prucha, Maxim Afinogenov and Sergei Bobrovsky.

Penguins center Evgeni Malkin plays for his hometown KHL team, Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

Well hey, those are reputable sources. Good to see Tanger getting in some meaningful hockey this year. Hopefully Sid and Neal will follow.

Do KHL clubs have a limit on imports? I'm a bit surprised Letang just doesn't sign with Malkin's team.

Yep. A limit of 3 NHLers, and only 1 can be a foreigner.

That would explain it.

Kind of a weird time for Letang to go over.

Malkin is great! No chance for one of the KHL leaders Traktor 3:0. Malkin with hatty 3+0, Mozyakin 0+3.

I need to stop reading this thread. I get so damn pissed that Geno is tearing it up and I can't watch any of it.

So, Magnitogorsk is holding out hope that Crosby will pick them? They have Gonchar and Malkin only as NHLers, right?

Hmmm, so what was all that talk about how Geno was saying Sid was going to join him? Geno doesn't know the import rule, perhaps? Or maybe they'd make room for Sid?

Actually there was an interview with someone from the KHL ... I wanna say it was Medvedev, but I don't remember ... saying that if the NHL lockout continued/looked like the entire season would be lost then they would likely change that rule. But Geno's also said that Sid's agent had been in contact with MMg's front office but there was no real expectation that he'd play there ... paraphrasing of course.

Ahh, that would make sense. And yeah, Crosby's been linked more often to 2-3 teams in the Swiss National Liga A. The only draw for him to Magnitogorsk is of course to get back to playing with Geno. But I think the entire country of Canada would have a seizure if Sid would play in Russia. It's silly, of course, but Canadian media is nothing if not irrational.
