If you are going to follow each day's events and judge it and ride it emotionally, you will have a monster headache.

They are meeting independently with mediators. Not together.

Seems like a game of Russian Roulette between Fehr and Bettman at this point.

If it was today, he'd have said so. He means next Thursday.

Also not news. They set a January 11 deadline, and if nothing's close on January 10, it stands to reason they'd wipe it out.

next week, makes sense anyway, that's pretty much the deadline. I would expect by next sat-sun.

Next Thursday. Before January 11th which was the deadline. Makes sense. They'll get it done January 10th 11:59pm.

That's what I thought, and all I've heard so far.

And Bettman cancelling season Thursday. This Thursday? Like today, and the 42 minutes left?

Or next Thursday? We already knew the 11th was the drop dead date. Or at least what the NHL said was the drop dead date.

What happened to next Friday being the drop-dead date? Now they're moving it up a day? Good grief, talk about moving targets.

If it comes to the day before and nothing's close, why wait?

Doubt it was him specifically as the WFP is a reputable paper that identified the source as a BOG member (Bettman is not a governor). I have no doubt this is part of the NHL's strategy and Bettman knew about but its not Bettman himself.

This isn't the first time we've heard the league readies itself to cancel games as another deadline draws near. Standard.

Bettman will start talking to the media at 11:55 PM next Thursday and at 12:01 AM Friday morning he'll cancel the season.

lol LeBrun is mad:

Then again, as one NHL team executive mused to me Thursday night, perhaps Fehr knew all along but was waiting until the right time to pull that one out of the hat to get his players all riled up and galvanized? That perhaps, after having some players second-guess him Wednesday night for not filing the disclaimer of interest (several players told me they would have liked him to do so), that perhaps Fehr needed to change the focus? Not sure I can buy that kind of conspiracy stuff but the fact some reasonable-thinking people think that’s even possible also shows you what this lockout has done to people in our industry: We’re all going crazy.
Is it really that crazy?

Quote:
Are we really going to see a season cancelled over those remaining issues? Or if a season is cancelled, is it more because of the dysfunctional dynamic that exists between both sides in negotiation?

Did I mention this was the most embarrassing and irrational sports labor negotiation in history?

Logic dictates a deal will get done, given what little separates both sides. But logic has been benched for long periods of this sordid game.
If it does get canceled, let them destroy each other and let the NHL dissapear for as long as it takes to get the poison out of the game.

There's nothing standard about this one. This is the end however it turns out.
