Yeah, it would be a shame if we stole talent from the AHL.

I know we have an affiliate in the AHL for something but I just can't put my finger on it.

Obviously Lee had no future in Ottawa, so Murray took a chance on Gilroy.

Sure it flopped, but Lee is hardly irreplaceable. Injuries happen. Maybe Wiercioch IS ready, and as for robbing the AHL of a guy like Benoit...that is the nature of the agreement between the two teams.

There is not one single Binghamton player that wouldn't prefer to be playing in Ottawa.

Trading Lee was a mistake. I thought so at the time, and it only looks worse now.

But give your head a good shake if you cant figure how Murray still has a job. All GMs have a few blemishes, and this is Brian Lee after all. Surely we can forgive and forget. He's put the organization in a very strong position moving forward. We have excellent depth in our prospect pool, and a tonne of flexibility with the cap, something most organizations are jealous of at this point in time.

Hopping on the 'why does he still have a job' train. Mistakes like the Gilroy trade are unacceptable.

You guys...

Murray should have been fired years ago, but he wasn't. Since the "official" rebuild, he's done a pretty good job. Even I can concede that point.

He's re-stocked the farm team, we have some real promising young players on the way, and let's be realistic here...BM is going to get a lot of mileage from the EK pick at 15.

Of all the things to hate on Murray for...the Lee trade is an awfully curious thing choose.

Yeah it didn't work out. It made no sense, and probably hurt the team a little since Gilroy sucked rocks.

This is not the Pavol Demitra / Christer Olsson trade here.

Even now there are still UFA dmen available that could adequately replace what Lee brought. Trading Lee has zero long term effect on the team.

Watched the 67's last night, Ceci is impressive going forward but he plays Defense in his zone with the intensity of a Russian in a charity game. Not sure if his confidence is completely shot or he is confused or just plain not into playing tight D - but he needs to seriously up his D zone effort to even get a sniff at the NHL.

More good news on the defensive front...

Mike Lundin got injured in Sweden. Not sure exactly what happened but it requires surgery so he probably wouldn't be ready to go if the season started in the near future.

We're making a trade, no way we risk miss making the playoffs because we are playing 2-3 rookies a night on D - we need a solid top 4 RD for this year and next when Gonchar is gone and we are waiting for Ceci to get NHL ready.

Problme is every team will feel they can make the playoffs in a 48 game season - gonna have to pay a high price to get someone decent.

Jay Bo maybe?

Guess who the mystery player is...

drum roll..................

Its Mike LUNDIN!!! yay!!! If I were to switch their stats and adjust team names, etc. nobody would've known the difference. They have had the exact same career path as each other, except one was a lottery pick , and one was a 4th rounder.

They even play the same. Solid defensively with an underrated first pass. Yeah, Lundin is 3 years older, but I would argue theres not much upside left for Lee imo. They have the exact same cap hit, but Lundin brings more playoff experience as well. He played 18 games in that Tampa run a couple years ago.

So we basically got a free try-out for Gilroy, which obviously didn't work out, but replaced Lee with the exact same player on the exact same contract.

I am no doctor, I had to google the recovery time for such surgery. It'd be tough to motivate someone to wait to have surgery on something because there may or may not be a need for him when the season may or may not start in a couple of weeks.

I agree its a pointless deal to get up in arms over. Doesnt change the fact that it was a poor one though. We need/needed a couple of mobile, defensively responsible guys to play in the 5/6/7 role, and we traded one that was drafted and developed by the organization. I see that as a lateral/backwards move.

I believe that if you can fill a need from within the organization, you should do it. And exactly what free agent do you propose we go after?

Point is I agree, its only Brian ****ing Lee for gods sake, no need for anyone to lose any sleep over it. Murray has done a bang up job with the rebuild so far and should be given a mulligan on this one.
