The Millennium Debate

Which one do you believe in?

If you don't know, the debate is about when was the first year of the third millennium (the 2000s). Was it 2000 or 2001?

If you want to look a bit into it, which I find it incredibly interesting, here's a quick page I found:

To be fair, I didn't read all of that not cause I don't want to but I'm about to crash.

Anyways it says a millennium is equal to 1000 years. Since 2000 would be two times that, I'm going to go with 2001 being the first year

if the AD years began with Jan 1, 0001, then the "00" year is the last year of each century and thus the first day of the 3rd millenium was Jan 1, 2001.

(isnt this topic about 12 years out of date??)

There is no debate. A bunch of people being wrong and saying that 2000's the new millennium because it's a nice and round number doesn't make it so.

The topic came up on another thread, so I started this one instead.

It's 2001.

A decade is 10 years. It ends on the 10th year. The next decade would begin 11.

A century is 100 years. It ends on the 100th year. The next century would begin 101.

Same goes for millenniums. It ends on the 1000th year. The next millennium would begin 1001.
