So fans in 80's/90's were super fans I guess since 162 game seasons didn't kille WS

Simple reality is that World Series is marque event and this past year had 2 bigger market/historical teams (Detroit and San Fransisco) involved and it still didn't draw well

Yankees/Phillies faced off in 09 ,, Ratings were barely higher then White Sox/Astros

2 marque/major market teams including the most popular franchise in game and the series still didn't come close matching past

The bottomline is that the MLB has it figured out better than the NHL. If there's no season, the MLB will obviously still have better ratings.

MLB Has had over a hundred years almost majority as America's game (Football took over in 80's) ,, NHL has always been Niche sport with small growth in America

Not very good comparision

Well, you were saying how the MLB "robs" fans.

The MLB robs fans by taking money in tax deals and such, and the NHL owners are clearly robbing fans of the enjoyment of actually watching the sport of hockey at that level.

With that said, you can compare that. It is certainly discussion-worthy, in my opinion.

The Miami Marlins are robbing fans/taxpayers

The fact MLB hasn't stepped in is disgrace ,, Infact letting Loria own another team after he ran the Expos into ground was disgrace

The absolute joke that is Marlins and the fact MLB prevents small markets like KC/Pit from having chance because of there poor economics I never want to see part of NHL

The fact Royals cant afford to keep young talent longterm (Remember franchise had a good group in early 00's but had to dismantle team before it even got going because of costs)

And the fact that owners and players haven't stepped into meetings acting like adults is also a disgrace.

And I never said that I wanted to have a new system in place that made the NHL more similar to the MLB. That's all on you bringing this up, BWC. Just tell me who was had more lockouts/strikes since 1994. After that, you tell me who has it more figured out.

Like I just said, no one wants to negotiate like adults. This kind of ******** is why the blades aren't hitting the ice. Pretty sad.

That's not even what the quote says. LOL. The teams needs these to remain competitive just as much as the players.

So if I'm reading this all correctly, baseball is dying because people don't feel like wasting 7 nights in October watching other teams play when there are so many other programming options out there, despite the fact local TV ratings and attendance are both pretty great? Okay then...

Just so we are clear, BWC thinks the MLB is dying, not me.

This is exactly the issue, no it's not time to take them to the cleaners. This isn't war, whats best for the league is a deal that is good for both sides. But both sides want to win which would hurt the league instead of helping the league.

Comparing baseball to the NHL is ridiculous. The MLB has been and will always be more popular then the NHL. The issue with the NHL is that it still hasn't realized that it is a smaller sport more comparable to the MLS then to the NFL.

The league has already gotten everything they wanted. They are just trying to milk it at this point.

Comparing MLS to the NHL is what is ridiculous. MLS is no where even near the level of the NHL. The NHL is much closer revenue wise to baseball than MLS is to it.

We'd open the UC with the Flyers. I'm very happy with that.

Supposedly the 48 game season would not just pick up from where the 2012/13 schedule would be right now - it will be all 48 games against conference opponents. So the Hawks wouldn't see an East Conference team until they get to the SCF

Well dang. Hopefully, it's like Vancouver or Detroit. I'm sick of Nashville.

What's so ridiculous about pointing out that 1 league hasn't had a work stoppage in 15 years, where as the other league has had 3 in that time.

Bettman doesnt get along with anybody, but Fehr is respected by his baseball foes.

The MLB figured a couple things out. Huge national and local t.v. contracts so nobody cares to fight during CBA time.

The Yankees are spending double, quadruple what some teams are spending. However, a good portion is luxury taxed and given to small market teams.

the thing is, it won't get fixed - not w/ bettman involved on behalf of the nhl. whatever deal they come up with - be it next week or next september will end up w/ problems.

the nhl has shown no interest in addressing the root problems it faces. no matter what the resolution is to all of this, the same teams w/ no fans will continue to have no fans and will continue to hemorrhage $.
