I'm skeptical of that leak too...but really BOTH sides owe it to fans to have votes on the 10th. Let the negotiators (such as they are supposedly doing) go back and forth till then, but if either side has a conscience for what their own constituents and the fans feel, they have to vote. Owners and players.
What I find interesting is that before the sides made it public there was a mediator involved, no journalist talked about it, probably because they didn't know. Big thing to not know if you claim to have sources on the inside.
Now that it's public, they claim they can basically tell us what the guy had for dinner.
The former players involved in the PA also got to see their pay cut by Bettman a few times; they've had a lot of experience with Bettman. Regardless of how it got there, Bettman killed his relationship with the players long ago. There are very few players still in the league who could look at their paycheck from 14 years ago and compare it to one from last season, as well. Chances are good those players might not see a lot of difference anyways.
The only year the players on average ever took a pay cut was after the last lockout, where they were offered better and still didn't play the whole year. It only took 3 seasons for the average salary to get back to almost EXACTLY where it was the year before the lockout (a record high, and then continued to increase by $14 million/team over the next 4 years.
The only reason players would feel hard-done by is if they think they have some inalienable right to always make more money, even if it jeopardizes the existence of shaky franchises. In which case Bettman put them through an entire three seasons of not making more money while insuring that no teams folded. Which means the league maintained the same number of jobs for players. While overall increasing salaries significantly...at the expense of owners' profits.
I'll be in the city tomorrow. Heading to the boat show at the Javits. I think I might head to the NHL offices and just toss an old Rangers sweater on the floor. Why not?
He did choose the career that basically requires him to play telephone I'm assuming 80% of the time.
Well, what he's doing (negotiating parties in separate locations) is called "classic mediation." I can't say for certain, but it seems to me that if that was how things were normally done in mediation, it wouldn't need that descriptor. It would just be called "mediation."

If both sides are in there meeting, barricade them in.

Excellent point. A major detail that absolutely everyone missed.
We can't be sure that ANYONE knows what's happening in there besides the people in the room.
Did Strickland give his source? Lavoie had a similar information in early December that the players would get to vote on an offer. I believe we never got the source and the news died down... I assume it must come from the PA's Executive Board because they would have the authority to force a vote by the membership on a proposal? Please, we want that source!
Look at 04-05, The players knew what was coming and look at how that ended. I'm not sure how you can characterize it. I feel like the other unions are just smarter than the NHLPA. The NHLPA just seem to not get it.
The problem is entitlement, I remember a Taylor Hall tweet saying "we just want what's fair".
You get paid millions to play with a piece of rubber...shut the **** up about fairness.

these types of buisness deals are not meant for play by play analysis. I know the reporters are doing their job, but its a pointless exercise.
Nothing will happen until the 11th. Its as clear as day.
That's why I am so glad to stay far far away from twitter. Half the people who post twitter messages, post messages that are so useless and dumb. Like the one about a women canceling her NYR season tickets. No one and I mean no one cares about that. But someone found it so important to post it here. God I hate twitter. I'll wait until serious lockout news gets broadcast on TV, radio or NHL.com before I take anything being tweeted seriously.
Oh no! I have to wait 5-10 minutes to get from twitter to other media organizations. What am I gonna do? I am so late to the party of breaking news!
I can wait the few minutes. For my money, twitter just sucks.
