I agree with the person mentioning that mediation is negotiating.

For all we know they could be making progress.

I'm more in favor of the owners that players, but some of you just take it to a ridiculous level.

I should be thankful that as a Ducks fan, nobody on the team has come out and said anything very stupid on twitter. Well, other than Getzlaf saying that the DOI was a negotiating tactic to get the ball rolling.

They should go into binding arbitration at this point, but they wont.

But yet the PA wants the league to sign a waiver to continue negotiating with Fehr.

No wonder why the NHL is calling their bluff. It is a sham move.

Well that's only stupid due to the fact that it could get the union in trouble in court. I agree with you though. I'm happy Ryan Whitney hasn't said anything TOO stupid since this started and Hall has only made a couple misinformed comments.

Hey, all the "today is going horrible." and season cancellation talks from insiders on twitter has died recently. Maybe the leaks have stopped and they're back to bargaining?

Agreed. Haven't they been meeting with him since 10 or 11 this morning? I doubt that they have been meeting all this time and not made even a little bit of progress.

They still have 5 or 6 days until a deal needs to be made. They can make all the progress in the world, but neither side will reveal their very best offer and sign on the dotted line until the 9th imo.

It's hard to trust any of the twitter guys to be completely honest.

Bettman said a few days ago in his PC that mediators have been involved for about a week while the two sides were exchanging proposals which is something that NO ONE knew about in the 'twitter-verse'. I remember everyone being legitimately surprised when he revealed that federal mediators were involved.

So with that said.. who the hell knows what's happening. After Hamrlik's quotes, who even REALLY knows what the players think. Seems like there might be a good deal of NHLPA members who would agree to any offer right now and who aren't so pissed off at the league.

Just because they aren't meeting face to face doesn't mean negotiations aren't going on. It may go all the way to next thursday but there will be an agreement.

The season isn't going to get canceled over what they are hung up on right now. either the NHL is bluffing about cancelling the season, the players call it and the NHL gives in.. or the NHLPA agrees to a deal in fear of the NHL cancelling the season.

Some of you might hate Bettman or the owners and think they are vindictive and would cancel the season to prove a point.. but at the end of the day, they are businessmen. They aren't going to cancel the season over pensions... or a couple million in cap space. They just aren't.

Bettman canceled the season last time because both sides barely talked and they were SO very far apart. They aren't far apart right now.

I'm been favoring the owners side through most of this but if they want to get that extra ~$150 million in revenue by having an extra week of games.. they may want to give in right now. I have a strong feeling that Fehr is going to play this out til the end.

EDIT - and the players don't seem to care too much about losing money with each passing week.. even if it does hurt them a lot more than the owners.

Has this been confirmed? if so, great. There is your date Fehr. Your guys have to vote to disolve or to accept most recent offer by the NHL. Tune out for a week ..........nothing but BS will happen between now and then.

Good.

Hopefully if it is canceled, the league folds.

Just got back from pick-up hockey. Got an assist or a goal, couldn't tell if someone else tapped it in. Had the goalie all sprung out and deked it behind is pad and got it across the line.

What's the word on the lockout folks? Plus you guys need to try lunch time pick up, it's so much better than night.

The date is the 11th and has been for the past week. The league informed the PA of that

As a person who has personally experienced mediation as well, it is DEFINITELY negotiating. People need to stop complaining that they aren't getting on with it.

While I don't have a link to support this, Ron McLean just stated on XM Radio NHL Channel's HNIC show that the deal is done and they are just working out minutiae now. He said this not as breaking news but as a measure to calm everyone down and to reassure listeners that there will be hockey to watch this year.

They are bringing on a parade of HNIC personalities stating that things are basically done. Jim Hughson just stated that Bettman and Fehr are standing at the finishing line and can't decide if they want to let the other guy break the ribbon.

So anything more on the NHL's lawsuit? Doesn't the PA have until the 10th to respond?
