Me either. If they get 52 games in then the players don't miss a paycheck and there is more HRR for both sides. Don't buy it.

They're going to hold off until next week to see if the other side cracks and they can get another perk or two out of this. Seems to be the opinion most hockey people have at this stage - no reason not to trust it. It's become pretty obvious both sides had a date in mind to end this and the past four months of B.S. was for nought.

Thinking about taking the weekend off from following this. It's the last one before classes start up again, and I want to make the most of it rather than waste it following a negotiation process that's been 99.9 per cent decided.

Maclean also had an article before the season stating why their would be no lockout. Look how that went.

Might see the players concede before the 11th. I don't see why they would want to waste 2 days on jetlag and immediately go through the last 5 days of TC.

I can confirm this, i've seen it elsewhere as well.

This was a leak awhile ago that Bettman and the NHL were in place to cancel it if need be. I believe the talks will go to late night on the 10th, and be canceled before the 11th if there is no season. I

Not canceled immediately the morning of the 10th.

I wouldn't say it's a strategic trick, this was a common known deadline. They want to have a deal in place by the 11th, will work all day the 10th if need be and once the day is close to ending they'll pull the plug if need be.

Whether or not they play this year, the NHL is in serious serious trouble. Look how long it took mlb to recover from the stoppage in 1994 and NHL is nowhere near as popular as MLB
couldnt agree more bud. I said this like 43 threads ago and people just dismissed me. MLB only survived bc of two juiced up meatheads hitting 600ft homeruns every 6 at bats. Baseball turned a blind eye to steroids bc it was saving the game, but theres nothing like that in hockey that can capture the attention of the nation(s). Geno or Stamkos arent going to score 100 goals. Sid isnt going to get 170 assits and 80 goals for 250 points. The game IS in trouble.

So says one article...

It's all speculation at this point. So arguing over a date is worthless until it actually happens. Either way, Fehr will see any date set by the NHL as artificial.

Not true at all.

http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.p...news&Itemid=42

MLB has had steady growth since the the strike of 94.

It's obvious some (a lot) of you do not know how mediation works.

I have been involved in mediation several times - you sit in one room with your lawyers, representatives, etc - the other party sits in their room.
The mediator comes into your room, you tell him your offer and maybe explain how you came to that figure. He then takes that info to the other party, explains it to them, then leaves the room for them to digest it, go over it, etc.
When they're ready, they summon the mediator back, tell him their counter-offer, explain why they came to their figure.
The mediator then comes back to your room, tells you the other side's counter-offer, then leaves the room for you to go over it....and on and on it goes, until a settlement is reached or they at least get a little closer, and agree to meet again.

Now, because of the sheer size of the agreement they are trying to reach, with all the variables that factor in, $$$, etc., it's going to take a little while.

Really, this is a good thing they're continously meeting with the mediator and he's been actively been going back and forth.
I've explained this multiple times - I hope you have more success than I did!

Are you sure? This sounds like the entire union ceases to rep the players.

Disclaimer of Interest

While decertification is the players walking away from the Union, a disclaimer of interest is the Union walking away from the players. So a disclaimer of interest occurs when the Union terminates its right to represent the players. It's also a less formal process than decertification. It can be as quick as Donald Fehr sending a letter to the Commissioner's office declaring the NHLPA no longer represents the players as a bargaining agent. There's no vote, no petition and no decertification election.

It's all histrionics. The players and owners can be all upset, but the people negotiating the deal are seasoned veterans at this stuff.

Just heard Doug Maclean mention the towel thing again. The way I understood it was there was a 20 minute battle between both sides in earlier meetings where the PA argued that the towels used on the road weren't satisfactory and unacceptable to them.

Is there anything these sides haven't argued over during this?

Anyone know how ratings/attendance was in the 1995 season, 95/96 season compared to 1994?

They said the same thing in 95, the same thing in 2005. Are you saying third time is the charm? 3 strikes and you are out? Or is it simply because this time there is a hell of a lot more information being leaked than in the previous 2 lockouts?

Disagree.

In hockey markets, the game will be effected little, if at all. It's the markets in the south that have the biggest risk, but the cash cows will continue chugging along.

I really think the 1998 season with Sosa & McGwire plus the ridiculous Yankees season had a lot to do with baseball coming back.
