Truth.

Switzerland had a lot more problems with the format this year than Canada did.

Shootouts should never be allowed in tournaments.

I agree there, but I put that game on at work right as OT began and from what I saw, the Swiss had every intention to take their chances in the shootout. They were in defend and kill time mode for the full 10 minutes.

Wholeheartedly agree. I'm okay with it settling regular season games but it should never be the deciding factor in playoffs, international tournaments, etc, anything of that much importance.

It would of been nice to see them win, but it isn't even close to the pain of say, losing the Olympics or the Hawks not winning the Cup.

I rather enjoyed this win more than other years. Most of my Canadian friends say that 'our best players for this tournament are in the NHL. If they played we would dominate'. Well...here you are and no you didn't You beat the US by one goal the first time in a very evenly played game and got blown out with the best you have. The rest of the world has caught up.

While shootouts are a bad way to decide games, I think they are necessary in short and compressed tournaments like these. They need to keep a schedule and if one game is drawn out by several OTs, it could cause trouble and could cause an advantage to a team facing a team that had just played triple OT the night before. Extending the tournament to accommodate multiple OTs is probably going to expand the costs all around.

Well, 3 other teams have caught up (US, SWE, RUS), not the rest of the world. They have been caught up for years, this isn't a new revelation.

Teravainen and the Finns demolished Slovakia 11-4 in the relegation round today.

TT came out of it with 2g, 2a, 4p, 7 SOG, 100% on FOs (he took 3), and a +3

With his 6GP, 5g, 6a, 11p, TT is (for now) the 3rd leading scorer of the tournament.

Exactly. These kids lose one game and you’d think the world was coming to an end. The format sucks but it has been like this forever and isn’t about to change. I knew after 10 minutes that the Canadians were flat and in trouble - any chance of getting out of their slumber later in the first period was squelched by Gibson (what I’d give to have him in our system. Anaheim must salivating). The US team deserves credit for peaking at the right time and we all know a hot goalie can make a good team great.

1. Armia (FIN) 6gp, 6g + 6a = 12points -1 (19yo)
2. Granlund (Fin) 6gp, 5g + 7a = 12points 0 (19yo)
3. Teravainen (Fin) 6gp, 5g + 6a = 11points +6 (18yo)
4. RNH (Can) 5gp, 3g + 8a = 11points +6 (19yo)
5. Gaudreau (USA) 6gp, 7g + 2a = 9points +2 (19yo)

TT is a year younger than the other top scorers and has the best +/- of the Finnish forwards. Stay healthy and grounded TT and your future is bright.

Actually, Canada did dominate the tournament up to that point. They lost one game. Losing one game doesn't suddenly mean the US, Russia, Sweden or Finland are suddenly on the same level as Canada. Teams like the US, Sweden, Russia and Finland certainly have their share of talented players and any one of those teams, as has been proven over the last couple years, can beat Canada and any other team in a single-game elimination, but I ask this: Which country supplies the NHL with the most NHLers? Which country has the most top-50 scorers in the NHL last year? The year before? It's still Canada and then everyone else, one game doesn't change that fact.

The other 3 other countreis are as good as Canada in international team play.

The other 3 countries aren't even close when it comes to talent.

Marek vs. Wyshynski mentioned an NHL insider (probably joking) saying "we need to get Seth Jones going 1st overall to a large American city with a large minority population."

I know city that perfectly matches that description. Time to fix the draft!

I think the top 4 teams are fairly even. You're not sending every player you have in the age group - you're sending 23...and Russia, Sweden, US, and Canada can put together roughly equivalent rosters (although, obviously, with varying strengths and weaknesses).

I'm not surprised that the US made it this far - i thought they'd get the bronze at least - and as the tournament went on you could see they were very strong and also very consistent. I hope they win tomorrow.

I'm a bit surprised by Sweden (I thought Finland might do better than them) - but that's not because of skill - it's because I thought they'd end up getting killed because of the injuries they'd suffered and the loss of Zibanejad.

"Dominate" is a strong word - I don't think they played as strong as their w/l record indicated. That US game they played was very close and Subban looked shaky the first two games. They were the best team the first 4 games - but I was definitely less convinced they'd win the tournament going into the quarterfinal game than I was when the tournament began.

Right. When it comes to 1 team vs 1 team they can compete. Let's play Canada's 'D' team against the US's or whoever and see how that turns out, though.

Talent is talent, doesnt matter what sport it is.

Elite level talent with the option of actually aquiring it, is worth whatever to get.

Seth Jones is that good.

Whatever you have includes Toews, Kane, Keith, Hossa, and Sharp.....really? You want to trade what ever we have to get him?

if edmonton ends up picking second, i wonder what they'd want as the + if we tried to give them hammer or bolland for the pick.
