Considering Murray's injury and the development of others who were selected after him, would Ryan Murray still be selected 2nd overall if the draft was held today?

Not going to argue either way about this, I just wanted to here your opinions

I think so...and keep in mind that some of the guys drafted high last year (Galchenyuk, Reinhart, Rielly) had missed a lot of time because of injuries.

Personally I would have taken Galchenyuk and Reilly ahead of him then and still would. Murray will be a solid defenceman for a long time though.

Almost certainly. Columbus was sold on him pretty early on and assumed they had lost him when Edmonton won the draft. If he had been taken 1st overall, Columbus would have traded out of the top-4.

Also they turned down an improved offer of all of the Islander's picks right after Edmonton made their selection.

Edit: Just to add, if the draft were to occur today and Columbus DID draft Galchenyuk 2nd overall, that would be more due to Galchenyuk's recovery than anything to do with Murray. Murray is expected to return to 100% and not have any lingering problems from his shoulder according to CBJ doctors. He is so advanced developmentally I don't think it impacts him that much.

Well he was skating with the Jackets earlier this week so at least he's looking to make progress. His surgery in January was listed at 6 months recovery which would mean he's recovering quicker than expected.

Has been in practices with non-contact jersey, I think. Recovering well by his own words.

Very smooth skating and very smart two-way defense man who can be used in every situation.

Well 6 months for the shoulder to take full stress, eg. game situations. So it's not that much ahead of schedule. Close to 4 months is actually quite a long time if he hadn't skated at all, or they are just taking it very, very easy. You don't want to fall on that arm.

Expandable isn't the same as expendable. Also your utilization of "weather" over "whether" makes it difficult to take the article seriously.

If he wasn't moved at the draft, I have a hard time imagining he will be moved any time soon.

I'm not sure if that article is a joke or not? The Blue Jackets would be crazy to trade Murray, he's going to be an anchor for a long time in the NHL, and the articles theories as to why they would trade him are ridiculous. First off both Erixon and Savard are probably going to be top-four players in this league. Second, Columbus would rather trade Prout AND Nikitin before they traded Murray.

So will Jack Johnson and Fedor Tyutin

Our defense is Solid, we could get a pretty decent amount in return, and put that towards areas we need more

How much are you going to get for Murray though. He hasn't played in almost a year and is coming off major surgery. IMO it would be foolish to trade him right now while his value has probably taken a hit. Having said that I would love to see him on the Jets he'd fit in perfectly next to either Bogo or Trouba.

No chance in hell Tampa would give 2 1st round picks for Murray. Those could be top 5 picks!...actually they will likely be top 5 picks. I like Murray but I think he was overrated by Columbus. He should be a solid, steady defenseman but he isn't going to lead the league in defensive points or anything. He's just not worth that asking price, at least right now he isn't. I think top 5/top 10 picks are best spent on the most offensively talented prospects.

If we got Murray I would be so overjoyed I would have a seizure and then jump into the pacific ocean out of sheer happiness...

Getting pretty tired of the oh lets trade Murray or Murray was hurt now he won't develop right or Galchenyuk should have been taken. I wanted Murray taken if we would have picked 1st so losing the lottery was a blessing in disguise for me. Do people remember Galchenyuk hurt his knee aswell as Reilly with an ACL injury and their development turned out alright. He takes a lot of flack for his offense but he would have easily led his team in points as a defensemen had he not been injured. He didn't have the luxury of making his breakout passes to guys like Leipsic, Rattie and Petan. It's only a matter of time before he is our best defenseman and i'm quite happy to have him and continue to hold out hope that we have our own Duncan Keith.
