Ryan Murphy

What could Ryan Murphy return in a trade? I'm assuming Carolina is looking for a shutdown defender, winger to replace the injured Ruutu or young 3rd line center. He may be expandable with Faulk's progression.

I don't think they'd get very much for him at the moment. IMO he'd be worth more to the Canes than any team would be willing to offer for him, especially after his poor showing at the WJC.

He wouldn't yield much. His vision is average (below average for a prospect of his rating/draft pedigree) and is incompatible with a long NHL career given his skill set. I'm not saying he will never figure it out. I just wouldn't sacrifice anything of similar potential for him because I just hate the way he plays the game lol. For all his raw talent, his hoggish nature puts me off.

Ya this thread is going to disappoint any Canes fans. He's really not developed according to plan

If he's expandable then Carolina should keep him. He could develop into quite a nice player with another 6 inches and 50lbs on that frame.

WJC is a small tournament where anyone can get hot. Hell even Stamkos struggled to produce in it.

True, but his performance certainly didn't raise his trade value. IMO If he had a phenomenal tourney he'd be worth more.

His value is low right now, especially with his performance at the WJC.

Apparently Murphy isn't even worth the oxygen he breathes

But this can serve as another thread to blame him for Canada sucking

For real though Murphy + for surefire greats like Rielly or Corrado

I know the plus has to be 2 firsts, Skinner and maybe Eric or Jordan

He still has value, but it's definitely not as high as it once was.

In case you haven't noticed, his value has dropped slightly based on 5 games.

We'll keep him and hope he continues to develop.

WJCs being given far too much importance again.

Nobody outside Canada cares about the tournament and people in Canada only do because they won five golds in a row, which has led TSN to hype it to death.

Note that every negative response in this thread is from a Canadian. Highly unusual when dealing with a Hurricanes prospect. Doesn't help that Murphy was taking ice time from an overhyped Leaf prospect as well.

He shouldn't have even been on the team in the first place.

Someone sounds bitter

Honestly I didn't even think he was that bad at the tournament. Had a few good games and a few bad games just like everyone else. He just didn't capitalize, so that's whatever. I rather like Murphy, but he is having a bit of a down season. I'd give up a roster player + a 2nd/3rd or so for him, depending on what the Canes want.

Oh I thought you were just trolling, my bad

What I mean to say was "seems like a bit of an overpayment, Joe Colborne is a 6'5 BEAST with hands like pillows!"

I think if the Rangers held onto Dubinsky, it would've been a fair offer to trade him and a pick for Murphy. Murphy is exactly what the Rangers need, a RH PMD.

Seems our wires are getting crossed.

I think Colborne sucks ass. Must be dealt immediately.

Haha crossed indeed, I also think he's terrible. Unlikely to get anything in a trade though, unfortunately.

Back to Murphy. I doubt Canes fans would be open to fielding offers for him; selling low is never a good idea, and it seems like Ryan Murphy is indeed the Hatorade flavor of the week, lol.
