The NHL doesn't have much credibility right now after all those supposed final offers and hills to die on that aren't as good as what's on the table right now... but at some point there just isn't enough time for a legitimate season.

I don't think that time is January 11, but Uncle Gary might disagree with me.

How crazy would it be if they don't gain any major ground after 2 days of really long negotiations?

How can they not be close to a freaking deal right about now? There's just so much negotiations you can do before you have to agree to disagree.

Nothing is said in here about the possibility of meetings tonight. The food says that there may be meetings and that's all I really need at this point.

And a lot of this is old news. Or stuff we've been churning through all day.

Mind you, it is a good summary for those jumping in and wanting updates on how things went today.

Where I think a mediator can help is that he sees through the emotions and posturing. He's only interested in what the sides want/need and what flexibility there is in those positions.

This is interesting, league saying that the PA not only received the highlighted/bolded changes, they asked for clarification. Twice...

(1/2)On "bait and switch" charges:league says HRR language given to players on Dec. 27, and players acknowledged it with follow-up questions

(2/2) on 12-29 and 1-1, rendering bait-and-switch charges, to league, as bogus attempt at redo on disclaimer vote

I think we were up to 1400 watching at one point.

I also think it would be a hoot if a deal were made tonight with so many people checking out for the night or entire weekend.

I'd believe Bettman about the 11th deadline, I mean, we are running out of time here to salvage a season.

Well, they're reporting the mediator going back and forth. It's pretty safe to assume they're negotiating. They don't need face-to-face meetings they communicate through the mediator.

Federal League, NCAA Division I or II, WHL, OHL, QMJHL, USHL? Not one team within driving distance?

I live almost two hours from Providence and I've driven there twice this season to see the Baby B's.

The point is, though, that any so-called replacement players would be culled from little more than beer league teams. I'm not going to pay any amount of money to see Joe Schmoe defile the Spoked-B to line JJ's pockets.

I don't think NHL has used the phrase "final offer" at any point. In a negotiation there are "best offers" and that doesn't mean it's a final offer. Just the best that they can offer at that point. Those change as negotiations drag on over months.

In a negotiation there is a certain amount of posturing. You claim you can't go any further even though you can. It's part of the game. Everything has to be viewed through that lens.

The blood is so bad between the parties right now (They're a long way from the group hug and campfire songs John Shannon seems to be calling for these days) that this may be the only way to get a deal done.

Which is fine by me. They could be using smoke signals for all I care.

You posture your way down to a final deal, you pretend things are important but then slowly release to get other side to make concessions.

NHL truly cares about 4 things: CBA length, HRR %, contract length and variance

They kinda bungled with HRR definition and amnesty buyouts but there's only so much you can do when your dance partner doesn't start negotiating until the last second.... Kinda screws up the process a bit.

agreed, dont know why he's spouting attacks at this point, stuff like that is annoying.

This stuff is still going guys. 6th day straight of meetings, only yesterday was a minor bump.

This is still negotiating, meeting in the middle on some things, the longer this goes the more positive it is.
