Ottawa Senators - San Jose Sharks

Couture
Vlasic

Spezza
Michalek
Methot

This could be a deadline/off-season move, therefore the cap may not be an issue. But if it is, we can add in
Murray and Lundin
or
Handzus and Daugavins
or
Havlat and Latendresse

Flame suit up

Why is it pointless?

Sens get younger, continue the rebuild.

Sharks get better immediately, contend for the Cup.

Sens take this and run.

Spezza may be the best player but hes also the oldest and only has 2 years left.

It'll make the sens worse for the upcoming season but better long-term.

Edit: This is awkward.

Spezzas market value atm is probably worth Couture and Vlasic alone, keep Methot in there but adding Michalek only makes us worst, unless that is Havlat comes back to us..

I would do, Spezza, Methot, Greening, 3rd 2014 for Couture, Vlasic, Havlat

Then look like this;
Havlat - Couture - Michalek
Silfverberg - Turris - Alfredsson
Latendresse - Regin - Smith
Stone/Grant - JOB - Neil

No way in hell. In what world does giving up the Sharks giving up their #2 defenseman make any sense?

You can make a proposal for Couture and I couldn't care less, but the Sharks are not in a position to trade Vlasic.

No thanks. Couture and Vlasic are untouchable. This trade might make us really good for 2 years then we will stink without any good young players to build around.

Just terrible for Ottawa.

Couture, vlasic+ for spezza alone (the + probably isn't that huge but still..)

Both teams say no. San Jose would be lacking some serious high end youth without those two and Ottawa is in no position to trade Spezza (or even Michalek really).

You won't find a single Sharks fan remotely interested in that deal.

Its pointless because its a horrible trade. For both teams! Why would the sens trade spezza when he still has alot in the tank plus arguably had his best season yet last year (individually, his other great seasons were with a prime heatley and Alfi) with a 2nd and 3rd liner.

He's also our future captain and the only star forward on the team. And untop of that you trade our 2nd best forward, who also had his best season ever. This trade makes us worst for the next 4-5 years guaranteed. Why would any sensible GM sacrifice the next 3-5 years for this trade "possibly"making us better in the long run. I understand proposals that trade an ageing declining vet for prospects on the verge but this trade isn't one of them .

This is a lot better from a sens POV. But I doubt the sharks do this

Horrible for the Sens a down grade in center and swapping a 35 goal winger for a defenseman who will never hit 30 points in his career,

SJS takes the 3rd 2014 and runs.

Dont see the sharks doing this, they need to get younger not try to take a weak stab at the cup.Their time for that with their older core of forwards is at an end they will rebuild on the fly ,while remaining somewhat competitive

He has scored 35 once. The year before he had 18. Vlasic is younger and amazing defensively. I really don't think it's even close.

18 goals the year the team was 29th in scoring, while missing 16 games.

They were probably 29th in scoring because he scored 18 goals.

I'd still take Michalek over Vlasic. I don't know what you're getting at.

Absolutely hilarious how the responses are at both ends of the spectrum.

''It's horrible for Ottawa''
''It's horrible for San Jose''

This trade makes San Jose the best offensive team in the league.

Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, Spezza, Michalek, Clowe, Havlat.... + Tommy Wingels and TJ Galiardi who are the bom

The defense would look like

Stuart - Burns
Methot - Boyle
Murray - Demers

which is still respectable. Vlasic is no doubt better than Methot, but I think he fits in nicely alongside Boyle. Don't ya think? Still a good D.

Thornton, Marleau, Clowe and Boyle aren't getting younger, and this would help them get a kick at the can. Without a doubt.

Spezza is 29 and still has years left in him as well.

For the Sens, I see Cowen with Karlsson long term, not Methot. Vlasic is certainly the type of player who can anchor the 2nd pair easily. Be the best player on that pair. Methot is more of a guy to complement that 2nd pair, not be THE guy on the 2nd pair.

Karlsson, Cowen, Vlasic would be sick long term.

Couture - Turris down the middle for 10 years would be sweet. Ottawa favorite.

Ottawa certainly pays for this in the short term... but long term I think the forward prospects can make up for losing Michalek.
