He will serve one game tomorrow morning and then could do 3 games at the World championships if the team goes that route

Yeah, otherwise it does carry out to next year, and I've skimmed an article on NHL.com where he was quoted as being concerned about that very thing, hoping to be a key piece on next year's WJC team.

Well I think pre-tournament games count say it would only be like 1 game next year I believe.

As I understand it, pre-tournament games do not count towards the suspension so it means three games in an actual tournament. Pretty harsh compared to some of the other suspensions handed down.

I'm guessing Team Canada will just put him on the roster for the World Championships and burn the games off that way because the WC means significantly less than the WJC at this point.

Didn't Huberdeau's suspension run through the pre-tournament games and then he was eligible to play in the actual tournament? I know it wasn't an IIHF issued suspension, but that would be stupid if it didn't.

As I understand it, Huberdeau's junior team played three games before the WJC began, which is why he could play. He wasn't serving the suspension by sitting out per-tourney games

Probably right. Just seems dumb. That's the IIHF I guess.

Does anyone know of any WJC viewing parties in the city? Boston, NYC, Buffalo are all hosting parties somewhere or another.

Couple of us are watching the game together that early, but I figured it'd be better go out if there's a place that's opening early to host a viewing.

Thanks everyone-

Well, it makes sense pre-tournament games don't count. They are friendlies, after all, and not part of an official IIHF recognized competition.

Would be interesting to see if Canada will try to appeal the suspension. No reason to not give it a try...

Sweden up 1-0 in the 2nd

Has anyone heard of any gatherings around Philadelphia for this game? I hear about it other places, but not here.

Edit: 2 for Rocco Girmaldi gives the US the lead

That's disappointing, since most other places seem to be.

Could easily have a hat trick.

Sweden lucky to be only down one.

He rescued Ghost, but where the heck was anyone else? Very rarely does the shorthanded team have a 2 on 1 on a forecheck.

They were up the ice because it was a power play, but agree, there didn't seem to be any support for him.
