Cherry: CHL should stop letting Americans and Europeans to play in CHL (merged)
Considering a lot of players from USA, Russia, Sweden etc... play in the CHL and then end up being better than Canada is horrible. CHL should stop letting all the foreigners come and play here in Canada. It is called the Canadian Hockey League for a reason? It should just be for Canadians. They are developing opponent players which is crazy and then they take our strategies and beat us..
Are you more interested in seeing Canada win tournaments or developing the sport of hockey?
Personally I want to see the best players possible make it to the NHL rather than win the U17s, U18s, or U20s.
I got nothing against Americans or Europeans it is just that I think that countries should develop their own players and players should play in their respective countries being trained by coaches and staff from their country.
As Ric Flair said it best, "To be the best, you've got to beat the best"
Kicking all American and European players out of the CHL is the equivalent of a little kid taking their ball and going home when they lose in the playground.
One of the reasons Canada produces fantastic NHL-talent is that they develop in the best junior league(s) in the world, CHL. Take away the foreigners and the quality of CHL would slip which makes the league a worse place to develop for canadian kids.
The foreigners would play in their own junior leagues or leagues like USHL and MHL, which would make these leagues a better place to develop in.
Closing CHL to foreigners is one way to decrease Canadas chances of ever winning wjc again, and would mean less drafted canadians, et.c. This is my firm belief.

Virtually all CHL teams are owned by Canadians. They're coached by Canadians and they're front offices are run by Canadians.
Dont blame the "foreigners". Blame the Canadians who run the CHL for wanting the best players in the world rather than the best players in Canada.
Besides, this is a BS claim anyway. A bulk of the US roster than just won U-20 gold also won gold at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2010 and never played a lick of ice time in the CHL.
This sounds dangerously close to some sort of 1950s hate rant, humorously taken out of context. Who cares where the kids are from? they're the best at their age group at what they do, and want to get better at their sport. is that such an issue? Do you really care that much about an u20 tournament that you want to deprive young hockey players who might be progressing the competition level of the sport we all love of being developed the best way they see fit? This is completely ridiculous and sounds like an argument ****ing Rush Limbaugh would make about racism. Let the kids play where they want to play. It's not like these kids from other countries are pounding down the doors of your precious CHL teams and extorting them into letting them play. No, in most cases these kids are being ASKED to play in the league. There's no reason for MORE discrimination in this damned world. What you're asking is such an arbitrary ideal. Get over it.
russian only in the KHL, north americans only in the AHL, Swedes only on SEL. then we all play each other at the olympics. that doesn't sound like a very good idea does it?
im more upset when great canadian talent is wasted in bunk american NHL markets.
Nice to see the OP getting nicely owned. The suggestion here is basically that Canada should make it's own player development slightly worse just to make other countries slightly worse as well. I think I'm safe in saying that this is bad for everyone. For those who come in here trumpeting the NCAA though, this is in many ways what the NCAA does by refusing entry to former CHL players.
Okay. The guy that created this thread is a perfect example of a little canadian kid that have grown up listning to Don Cherry. Cant you see how he how he ruins your kids?
Not only would it be bad for the development of hockey for every side involved, but bad for hockey in general. Competition is what improves everyone. The higher the competition, the higher the level of hockey.
Not to mention that excluding people in general by country, goes against all values of human equality and against everything I personally believe in.

The NCAA doesn't discriminate on national basis. Canadians are welcome to follow the same rules as Americans.
You cannot deny that the CHL has been instrumental in evening the playing field for the WJC. That is not a bad thing. Only xenophobes would want to remove non-Canadians.
