No CBA between the NHL(Employer) and the NHLPA(Union) does not necessarily mean that there is no transfer agreement between the NHL(Employer) and the CHL(Employer). If it was all simply in the CBA then there would not be an NHL/AHL relationship going on right now either.

The CHL and the NHL made an agreement that drafted players stay in the CHL unless they are playing in the NHL. It is to make sure the CHL gets to keep some of the talented players. The agreement expired the same time as the CBA. They will not make a new one until a new CBA is finalized.

There are more things between the CHL and NHL than just age restrictions. The NHL pays a CHL team $100,000 for producing a first round draft pick. (I did not know this until my friend that works for the OHL told me.)
So it is fair to say they wont make and financial agreements until they know what they are working with once the CBA is signed.

Wrong, they made a handshake agreement prior to the lockout that newly drafted players were still required to play in the CHL.

Handshake agreements are not legally binding.

It is just a common courtesy.

Either way allowing CHL drafted players under 19 to play AHL it was never going to happen this season.

You would have seen guys who are way more NHL ready then Ceci like Dougie Hamilton in the AHL. He's not. He's in the OHL.

Case closed.

If you bothered reading my original post, I asked if Ceci played anywhere besides Ottawa (in the SBP where GMBM can watch him everyday) of they would have moved him up to the AHL since the 67's are garbage right now.

As far as Hamilton goes, I don't care. He doesn't belong to us.

Qward, they're not legally binding, but IM TELLING YOU THERE WAS AN AGREEMENT?

Well how can you confirm what you said is true? BECAUSE NO ONE HAS PLAYED IN THE AHL THAT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO.

Still not convinced that Toffoli can stick in the NHL. He'll definitely get a chance, not sure he can stick.

Slow and lazy is not a good combo to have, no matter how talented you are.

I think his best bet is in some sort of hybrid 3rd line PP specialist role. I don't think his skating is up to par to play 18+ minutes a night nor is his 3 zone play but if they're able to play him on the 3rd line and not have him out of place and have him as one of the trigger men on the PP then I think he can be an NHL regular. I still think a lot needs to go right.

To Belleville: Tyler Graovac

To Ottawa: Sergei Kuptsov, 2014 2nd round pick, 2015 3rd round pick, 2014 conditional 7th pick.

AJ Jakubec says...

AJ Jakubec ‏@AJonSports
It's not a home run for Graovac. But good value with all of the sellers in the OHL this season. Price will be higher if they move Ceci. #67s

The point I have been trying to make is that if GMBM wanted Ceci to play in the AHL right now he could and the CHL can't say ****.

Kuptsov doesn't suck. He's going to get prime minutes in Ottawa and could be a near PPG player next year.

He's going to get prime minutes because the team sucks.

Very high, IMO. High value player, probably on his last year.

No clue, although I think they'll try and keep him as close to Ottawa as they can.

I really disagree with your assessment on Kuptsov. Like REALLY disagree.

It's a perfect plan for next year, IMO. I think at this point, there is a 60-75% chance that Monahan is back for one more year. Kuptsov actually reminds me a lot of Tyler Graovac one year ago. Both are big, strong forwards who have had periods of offensive greatness but have been largely inconsistent due to playing on teams where they've been pushed down to the third line. The 67s FINALLY get that winger that they've been looking for, and they have Monahan and Salituro as their Top 6 centers next year.

I'm actually pretty happy with the trade. The market is crap this year, and people need to realize that this is the OHL equivalent of a UFA deal at the deadline where the player isn't coming back. You're getting a late born 18 year old, and a couple draft picks. The odds are pretty good that at least one of the draft picks that they got will also turn into a decent OHL player with a 3 year career, so to me it's a great trade.

To me Ceci will actually go farther away. I can actually see him getting traded to London. I think the 67s could ask for Jacob Jammes and Remi Elie as well as a 2nd round pick and a couple mid round picks. Both Jammes and Elie are 1995's, and Jammes played Minor Midget for the Ottawa Jr. 67s.

The 67's didn't want to ship the kid off to the other side of the province after the season he's had carrying this awful team. They shipped him close enough so he still has contact with his friends and family he's made here in Ottawa. They got the best package they could from the close teams. The best package is not very good at all, but we have to remember that they're still kids.
