Again ,do you think Bettmen does..nothin to do with Fehr love of hockey...the players brought him in so they wouldnt get GRAPES stuffed in there eyes AGAIN...he tried it with 43% offer...

Bettman, with his owners' blessing, shut down the NHL for the entire 2004-05 season. He went head-to-head with players' union boss Bob Goodenow.
"Gary Bettman took Bob Goodenow's eyes out and put grapes in," said Devellano

I try to think of this entire lockout like 2005. With no twitter, no constant "play by play" updates.

Honestly, this week, neither party has publicly said anything bad about the other, things that have happened thoughout this process.

It has been quiet, we dont know any details, besides that they are making this mediator run back and forth btwn hotels. (why could they be in the same building for him?)

personally, this is an opinion, i have a feeling this is a lot closer then we all realize, and out of nowhere a deal is going to be announced. no reporter will have a scoop or anything.

its very quiet if you really think about it, that is very good.

think of it as the calm before the storm. but in a good way...

At this point, you think that he would just want to get a deal done. If Fehr had done that this board would have exploded but if Bettman does it it's called shrewd negotiating. His act has worn thin. Time for him to retire and enjoy his money. Maybe buy a new castle in Transylvania.

We've been burned with this type of thinking so often around here.

Beckenbaugh is certainly getting his exercise.
Surely they could invite the NHLPA to the NHL offices and give them their own boardroom so the mediator doesn't have to shuttle in between.

I would love a tell-all book from the mediator 20 years from now. This is some intense stuff right now.

I seem to recall a lot more on TSN lockout related. Like whole shows with the Insiders recapping events. Now its just short spots.

The mediator must feel like it, otherwise why would they be going? Of course, things can change as soon as Gary and Don make eye contact.

To be fair, in some ways we are paying for the sins of much worse crap that happened "back in the good old days". Both sides remember being burned by convicted crooks like Ballard, Eagleson and others.

This is either the meeting to save the season or the meeting that ends the season. Both sides meet with mediators for two full days, and convene today.

THIS IS THE DAY WE GET HOCKEY BACK. PLEASE !!!!!

Of course he does, the performance of the NHL is a direct reflection of his own performance.

Bettman's tenure is going to forever be scarred by the lockouts. People conveniently forget the enormous financial growth of the league under his authority, the record revenues, the mainstream exposure, the implementation of the salary cap (which absolutely needed to happen), and all the good things he's accomplished in his tenure.

Nobody wanted to avoid this lockout more than Bettman did.

I agree at this point, after this CBA, there needs to be new blood to rebuild the relationship between the NHL and its players. There was a real good article, by Macarthur I think? That said what has ruined these negotiations is the hate and mistrust on both sides, and I tend to agree. I'm not saying either side has to love each other, but there needs to be more professionalism and more respect for each other coming from both sides.
