That's a great example of what I'm talking about. The league used that platform to erode the players position and then walked away from the table. That's a fine negotiating tactic but not something you do to get a deal done.
What are you talking about? Asking the players to speak for themselves and not through a mouthpiece is "eroding their position"?
They walked away from the table as soon as Fehr demanded back in the room.

It would be the NHL's luck that they settle on NFL Wild Card Saturday. They wouldn't get a lot of US coverage.
You've got it all wrong. It wouldn't get a lot of US coverage in any case, except if NBC has a opportunity with which they can try to boost one of their own products. Which they do - tonight's Wild Card game is on NBC.
If there's a happy announcement to be made today, it WILL get mentioned in the NBC NFL broadcast tonight, and will reach a lot more ears in the US than if an agreement was reached on any random idle day.
