I don't even care anymore.

I'd rather there be no season.

We'll have a regular season so short, that the outcome will be meaningless. It'll followed by a farce of a postseason that determines a thoroughly undeserving Stanley Cup Champion.

Short season = meaningless and a team that wins 16 games in the playoffs is an undeserving champion. Puzzling logic there...

That said, I'm ok with no season. I'm going to have a hard time getting that excited to go. Right now, I'd probably hit 1 game in the first round of the playoffs and sell the rest.

Yup. A short season doesn't determine who the best teams are like a full 82-game season would. Ergo, the playoff participants aren't meaningful and thus the winner of the playoffs is undeserving, as compared to a team that won the Cup after a full season.

The 48 game integrity issue isn't nearly as big as it seems (see, for example, Dellow's spitballing on it here http://www.mc79hockey.com/?p=5134). I don't like a shorter season, but I'm not going to get all bent out of shape about the integrity of it all when luck already plays a huge role is just about anything sports related, especially in the playoffs.

Who's to say the 82 game season proves much anyways? How many top NHL seeds gas out each year in the early rounds? Why not as few as a 16 game season as the NFL plays or as long as the MLB season if you think length of season really establishes anything meaningful?

As long as the playoff format is intact, fine by me.

Because I'm comparing how meaningful it is to historical seasons. The NHL's had at least 80 games in the regular season for almost 40 years.

So what, you discount the previous Cup champions who played in a different season length and playoff format? Should we void 1/4 of Montreal's Cup wins?

I mean it seems like a simple "I'm a purist" argument from you. I wouldn't view this Cup winner as any less deserving than I viewa late seed sneaking into the playoffs, getting hot and winning it all.

does anyone recall the redskins first super bowl win being the result of a meaningless season and a farce of a post season? do we remember riggins run for the winning touchdown as one of the great plays of all time or as an undeserving champion?

The first 2 SB wins were strike-shortened seasons weren't they?

Montreal played the shorter seasons when that's what the size of the league dictated. And even so, there's been 70 or more regular season games since 1949. This shortened season would be in the midst of a bunch of 82 game seasons.

Difference of opinion. I would view this season's Cup winner as less deserving than any recent Cup winners. This season's winner won't have gone through the full schedule grind the others did.

They'll still have to go through the same grind as those they're competing against, though. The Presidents' Trophy may be tarnished this season, the Cup won't be. The winnowing process of the regular season is lessened considerably when one bad week, or a key injury or two, can end your season in the playoffs no matter who you are. 16 teams making it to begin with only amplifies that. (And I'm fine with that. The playoffs are fun because of it).

16 wins is 16 wins.

Though you know Penguins fans will talk a lot of crap.

Frankly I don't want to be relegated to watching the Wiz after the NFL. Need hockey back.

Pitchers and catchers report in less than 2 months. So that's, what, a 3 week stretch of doldrums? Doable.

Boomer Esiason says lockout over... Football player with connections to Rangers.

I don't know why anyone though of his status would lie about it...

Boom was right and first to post it on HFboards.

Ference tweeted a thumbs up, and he's in the negotiations.

A tentative agreement on a new CBA has been reached between the NHL and NHL Players Association.

The next stage is documentation and ratification of the deal with the start date and number of games in the 2012-13 season still to be announced depending on how long the final process takes.

More to follow.

Some times the analyst say stupid stuff, like training camp could start this week.

Its their ****ing job, they don't get some stupid 2 weeks notice before they have to start playing, they should of been practicing anyways on home ice and if the owners didn't facilitate that, well they are idiots, but I know the Capitals players not in Europe have been at Kettler the whole lockout.

I'm not going to lie, if I get the news they will have a open practice, I would ditch watching Football to go watch that instead.
