Maybe this is nothing but I just turned on TSN and they are showing a repeat of the gold medal game, but they have a scroll at the bottom saying they will be cutting in live after the first intermission. TSN doesn't normally do this during the day.

Memories are short. It was only a few weeks ago where the NHL and PA had marathon meetings two days in a row and optimism was running very high. Bettman comes out and bashes the PA for half an hour about how disappointed he is. Remember that?

Negotiations are a painstaking process. People like to follow their leaders. If Don Fehr decides to throw another curve ball you sure as heck know the players will back him 100% even if they are just about to sign the deal. I want hockey as much as the next guy, but this is such a delicate process with two very stubborn sides.
