So true about players running their mouths. I don't see how they can trash talk to league that's made them multi millionaires without sounding like a bunch of complete sucks.

If they can't use at least a marginal amount of professionalism when they speak into a mic or on twitter, than they shouldn't say a damn thing. Other than alienating fans and owners, their release is having ZERO positive impact. I for one have lost a lot of respect for some guys like Cole with his sucky comments about retiring and ridiculous hat. I wish the owners would collude to run some guys out of the NHL and see now quick they change their tune.

The collection of veterans on this team makes it hard for me to envision how I'm going to cheer for them. Their complaining and moaning. Their attitude and negativity. You'd think Camalleri was right.... But I wouldn't go that far yet. Especially coming from them, the privileged of society, it's hard to get. Sure they feel slighted but to ***** like that to the media, while always coming out guns blazing makes this bunch look rotten.

I need an explanation.

I was in the QMJHL board and someone said that January 8th was the recall deadline. I doubt it is the case but if true, it would mean that a guy like Huberdeau would not be able to join the Panthers if the NHL and the players reach an agreement between January 9th and 11th.

It does not make sense, right?

That's a date that comes from the old CBA or some other document? If so I think you have your answer.

In what world is the NHLPA *CAUSING* the lockout?

Only in hfboards is there such a prevalent anti-NHLPA mentality, whereas everyone in the news, from other leagues, even former executives are blaming the NHL for LOCKING OUT THE PLAYERS.

Prove it.

Agreed. The anti-union sentiment here is pretty mind-boggling. I just don't see any possible reason to take the owners side in this. Our owners, as well as those in Toronto and New York, are reasonably decent for the most part. But guys like Jacobs, Leipold, Katz and the NHL in its dealings with Glendale are shmucks who milk taxpayers by threatening to move franchises. The owners, by and large, aren't benevolent philanthropists providing hockey to us plebians- they are businessmen turning profits on crappy teams run on shoe-string budgets (Wang), holding fan bases and taxpayers hostage more often than not. As I said, some of them are alright. But a lot of them aren't. And it's those that are pushing the lockout as far as it's gone.

The solution? Public ownership. Works for my beloved Packers, who will be playing their first playoff game of the season tonight, and who a blown call against forced the league to make a deal with locked-out referees. They are also the best investment value in sports in terms of advertising, can't ever leave Green Bay, and have expanded their stadium consistently without resorting to anti-democratic tax increases. Oh, and they're also really good most of the time. Go Pack Go!

Now this is an off-base a statement as there ever was
It takes 2 to tango AND it was the PA that refused to start barganing till much later.
The fault lies with both sides.
That being said, easy to find middle ground if you have common sense. The one thing I will keep repeating is that its hard to put any faith in the leader of either side when they've never laced em up and stepped onto an outdoor rink at any point in their lives.
They're fighting for a bigger piece of an ever-dwindling pie.
Any gains made by LA winning have been erased, so now there's ground to make up before they can get to where they were before.
Both sides have been unreasonable through this process. Laying the blame on one side or another at this point is pointless

What if after the season is lost that the league and the players have to go to court to settle this dispute all the advertisers, NBC, the fans, decide to they just don't care about hockey anymore and that the NHL goes bankrupt?

And the players end up having to go find real jobs and deal with the harsh reality of making money outside pro sports.

They'd be ****ed!

The NHL bankrupt? I don't think the NHL itself has any debt accumulated aside from Phoenix since they operate them and they're about to sell this team. Some teams might file bankruptcy and then sue the NHL for whatever contractual reason they see fit, but aside from that all the other teams need to do is form another league and start over. AFAIK, the NHL doesn't own anything the teams don't, it's not a Coop or a hillbilly corporative setup.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger

PA hotel is buzzing in anticipation. Down to minimal issues...but, still not done. And definition of "minimal" may differ.

Well, if its a close as we're sensing it could be a very "good day" according to source.

For the first time since the lockout began, I can finally say I now have my fingers crossed with optimism. My gut told me the day that Fehr got hired that we wouldn't get a deal done on the next cba until the 11th hour. So I have been holding back any optimism until this point.

Someone needs to show these guys the Al Pacino motivation speach about inches, cause that's how far away these guys seem to be

lol @ Millard on Sportsnet a few minutes ago acting like it's going to be impossible to sign Subban for 2013-14 since we're already at 60 M.

Ever heard of a compliance buyout, Daren?

Even if there was no compliance buyouts, you just do not lose Subban.

You keep the players you want and make whatever moves you have to make that happen.

That Toronto hockey crowd just has a thing against the Habs, no matter what the issue is. They have trouble accepting that the Habs are just better in every way then the Toronto Maple Leafs and they never give us credit for anything, even after things actually happen.
