I don't get all the love for Couturier, I haven't seen any sign of him being able to reach 70 points. I think he's gonna be a good 50-60 point Selke candidate 2nd line center. That's obviously not bad but Yakupov is gonna be a 40-50 goal scoring winger.

On what basis are you suggesting a 20-30 goal / 40-50 point difference per year?
From the trade board, seems relevant here:

Sure, but that still doesn't answer my question...
It is far from a perfect methodology, but comparing production st the same age against players the same age seems at least partly relevant, right? Not totally predictive, but not irrelevant either.
Easily? I doubt it. Yakupov is very offensively gifted but seems to not be able to do much else other than the rush. He isn't very big so he isn't going to run over guys like Ovechkin or get back and play D. Couts on the other hand has offensive talent and is defensively gifted. I'd say he could play a game similar to Toews in the future once he gets to move up the Philly depth chart.

Couturier really wasn't projected to be a major point producer in the NHL. Just read the draft reports about him, of course that can change.
Yakupov was projected to be a Pavel Bure type player. Scouts see his tools translating better in the fast paced NHL I guess.
All I know is that since coming to Jersey, he hasn't scored a point per game. That player (no matter what his name is) is not better offensively than Jonathan Toews.
Problem with maths ?
Kovalchuk in 2011-2012: 83 pts in 77 games.
Career: 6 +1PPG seasons.
Toews: ZERO +1PPG season

I can't believe some people project yakupov to have as many goals as couturier has points.
I want to see Yak play with Nuge, Eberle etc. He could very well put up huge numbers. I think he'll be better then Couts. Maybe not on the defensive side though.
We want to talk potential?
We can't compare guys in different leagues point wise. We can however look at players in the same league
We'll take Stamkos and Yakupov. They both played in the same league, same team.
They both had a PPG of about 1.6, with Yakupov being a fraction higher
Couturier will be matched up with the first guy I found, Daniel Briere, who also played on the same team
Couturier had a 1.2PPG. Briere? 2.1
I'll even be generous and leave out his terrible first year, which still only puts him at 1.5
He's nowhere near Briere who with his career average (he had some amazing years) is a 60/70 poiny guy
Yakupov is right at the same place as 60 goal scorer Steven Stamkos
THAT is why Yakupov easily has 50 goal potential, and I highly doubt that Couturier will be a Toews light

I can say, with 100% certainty, that Yakupov will never be the defensive player that Couturier is/will be.
People seem to underrate Couturier's offensive game/upside because he put up 27 points last year.
He's pretty average in terms of skating, but it's better than when he was in junior. His best asset is his hockey IQ. He's just an insanely smart hockey player. Knows where his teammates are and where to be.
He's more of a playmaker than goal scorer. Good hands, especially for a player his size, but won't dazzle with moves.
Pretty good wrister too. Check out some of his goals from last year.

Turrible logic.
Briere played in the Q during the early-mid 90's, where it was a very, very high scoring league.
Couturier played when the scoring is pretty similar to the other CHL leagues, or definitely more 'even' than what it was when Briere played.
Hell, if you want to delve deeper, Yakupov was IMO better in his underage year compared to his draft year. He got to play with some decent prospects on that Sarnia roster (Galchenyuk in 2010-2011 [was hurt last year], Brett Ritchie, Reid Boucher, Ryan Spooner, Connor Murphy, etc.)
Check out Drummondville's roster when Couturier was putting up 90+ points. I know I haven't heard of one other player on those rosters.

Did you seriously just try'n pull out Danny Briere's stats from the early 90's? That analogy is terribad.
