Am I the only one who is mildly surprised none of Smith, Condra, Greening etc. opted to play for the B sens? It's not glamorous, but i'm sure the organization would have liked to have seen that kind of committment. I have not seen any Danish games but i'm sure it would be better for development.
I'm sure they'd be glad to play for B-Sens but they can't and that's good for our younger prospects.

I can't find the link, but I am certain I read the rules regarding players playing in the AHL during the lockout was "players must be on a 2 way contract or have played in the AHL last season" That is why Bishop was allowed to sign an AHL contract. You can have 5+1 vets per 18 skaters on your AHL team. Bishop took that +1 spot.

Neil, Methot, Cowen (although injured atm), Smith, Greening. We are not as soft as people make us out to be.
If Grant doesnt replace Daugavins by some point in the season assuming theres a 48 game season (haha) then theres something wrong.
Dawg was just as good, if not better than Grant in the AHL. Grant has been great this year, but it's not a given the success translates to the NHL level.

Hey when did Luc Richardson start coaching the Syracuse Crunch? Just watching the Marlies AHL game on Sportsnet and they wanted to congratulate the All star coaches for the All Star game, so they posted a graphic of Dallas Eakins (Marlies) and Luc Richardson of the first place Syracuse Crunch.

the reason sportsnet isn't showing bingo games isn't because they're biased, it's because they don't know the bsens exist! makes perfect sense now

I know Daug was a rookie on the 4th line, but 11 points in 65 games isn't exactly translating success either.
Daug put up better numbers in the AHL, but he never left the top 6 in 2010 in which you are referring. Daug put up 54 points in 73 games, which is pretty good im not gonna lie. If Grant were to play 74 games, he would be on pace for 40 points. Thats a pretty sizeable difference, but they played in different roles. If Grant was on pp1, and on line 1 or 2, I could easily see him closing that gap or surpassing it.
The difference here is that Grant is a center who can play wing, while Daug is strictly a winger. Versitality is pretty important in a bottom 6 player imo. Derek is also 6'3", while Daug, no midget by any means, is around 5'11". So if Derek can fill out weight wise, he could bring a pretty physical edge that Daug just isn't capable of. I know they are both are capable pkers, so thats pretty much a wash, but the edge might go to Grant. I also think Kaspars basically is what he is, while Grant might have a little more left to show us.

Daugavins will be the 13th forward to start the year, so unless there are injuries to Smith, Neil, JOB, Condra, Greening, Silf/Regin then Grant is just going to have to wait.

Last year's defence was way better than the current Cowen and Kuba-less edition (not to mention a declining Gonchar + Phillips, as well as a Karlsson who will almost certainly not match last year's heights).
I see no reason why Karlsson cant match last year. Remember he was badly snake bitten for almost half the season.
Gonchar and Phillips will have less games on their body, as will Alfie (and Gonchar certainly sounds like he is doing alright in the KHL)
Sure we are down Cowen and Kuba, but we also have added Methot and Lundin is a capable #6. Strong goaltending (which we have no reason to believe we wont have) should be enough to take this team to the playoffs, especially in a season where one 6 game win streak could be enough to get you in.
Not to get everyone all pissy but lets remember that the larger body of work is what is important about a goaltender. For example here is a comparison of Robin Lehner in his first 4 ahl seasons (to date) and Craig Anderson in his first 4 ahl seasons.
Goalie League GP GAA SV% W L OT
Robin Lehner AHL 83 2.76 0.917 38 34 6
Craig Anderson AHL 112 2.23 0.911 50 48 10
Now of course the important context is age and Robins Calder cup run but it is just interesting to see that the stats are rather comparable. It suggests that if Lehner's progression were to stall he probably would still be a goalie at a similar level to Anderson.
If we could get the level of goaltending that Anderson has provided for us from Lehner I would be pretty damn happy. That being said, I see him being a better goalie.
