As a person who goes to a lot of Panthers games, our fans our loud and devoted even when the arena isn't full.

Yeah, with the exception of a few markets on both sides of the extreme, a lot of markets will sell out and seem to have a large fan base in good times, but the base will seem to dwindle along with attendance figures when the team faces prolonged stretches of irrelevance.

The only issue there is that people who are already hockey fans have likely chosen a team by then - and aren't likely to jump ship just because they moved.

Exactly. I don't see why the owners would want to play LESS games this season.

Their ticket prices are surprisingly high too. I went to Florida over March Break 2 years ago and was thinking of grabbing some tickets to a game but didn't once I saw they wanted like 70+ bucks for high seats.

I don't think it's the actual games starting that's the thing, I think people just don't want to have to worry about it anymore.

They said the main issues regarding pensions were sorted, but there were still small issues to patch up.

Stubhub my friend, I bought ice-level seats for $10 each, sometimes nosebleeds are $3 each.

He makes it sound like the number of issues is actually increasing.

Fehr must be really bringing it today.

Which is why Tampa and Florida were slotted with the Northeast division in the re-aligment. Boston, Toronto and Montreal travel well down there as well as the transplants. Florida had a good percentage increase in ticket sales for this season after last years playoffs. Of course half of those games have since been cancelled.

I think they're extremely close on all those issues. They'll be solved very quickly as soon as both sides propose their best offers. Better than a huge gap on one issue IMO.

Neither side is stupid enough (Not even the players) to let this happen right now.

Would you want to be the person responsible for killing a season over a couple of million?

I hate the Panthers. HATE.

But lets get one thing straight. We like teams in Florida. Therefore, even if we sold out every single night, and have attendence records (ahem TB had them), we would still be unsuitable markets for NHL teams.

Florida has a lot of fans that have suffered through a lot of crap down there from ownership and the product on the ice. They are no different than 95% of sports teams around the world. If the team is good, people will come, if its not, it will be average attendance, if its a horrible team, then no one will go but the hardcore.

Dont remind people that Pittsburgh almost moved and were saved by the same Bettman that they vilify for putting hockey teams in the South. Its extremely hypocritical.

We will never win on that front. No matter what.

This is Donald Fehr and Gary Bettman we're talking about. I won't be surprised if they can the season because of ego alone.

I remember the NBA lockout had more issues than the NHL currently has, and i mean NOBODY bought into David Stern's threats to cancel the season. He didn't have the guts to do it. Bettman does.

Interesting...wonder if some of the NHL-ready guys from the WJC don't play again until the season starts also.

This is pretty mean, what did they do to you? I am so dedicated to the Panthers that there is nothing else more that I want than for them to win a cup, but I still root for the lightning every now and then. What makes you HATE us?
