Yes and before it was pension, and then it will be something else once cap is resolved. Why? The players DO NOT WANT TO PLAY. They want this to go to court so they have a shot at getting money for nothing.

I'm still amazed how people here haven't figured out that it will never be enough for the players. They will be *****ing about this deal for 10 years. No matter what happens.

It all started with the Panthers being mentioned with the Coyotes. Florida can be a good hockey market. I have serious doubts about Phoenix.

Last night sportsnet put up a weird graphic saying NHL wants 30% variance, and PA wants 25% that did not make sense unless im misunderstanding it.
Sportsnet must have been confused; that makes no sense.

Just because there is very little difference doesn't mean it's been sorted out. Again, these guys I don't think are going to do anything until they have a complete CBA which needs to be in legal language. That takes time. They may or may not have verbally agreed to things but unless it's on paper in agreed upon final language....

I disagree. The players would like nothing more than to play and earn their current contracts under the old CBA.

I am sure the majority of players would like a paycheque this year, as well.

If they wait for the courts, they could be waiting for a long time until they finally get paid. If they even win.

The players should play the DOI, until the NHL concedes to proper revenue sharing. Otherwise, this will only be the first of pillaging and plundering by the NHL for years to come.

From what i understand the Phoenix stadium is poorly located (a decent drive from Phoenix) which might be a fair point as to why they have attendance problems.

It's very feasible that the team fanbase would be much stronger if the arena was located in downtown Phoenix.

If like you say, the players do in fact WANT to play this year...the last thing they want to do is use that disclaimer.

I agree that Florida can be a solid hockey market. And I agree that Pittsburgh had a rough year in 03-04 that is comparable to the rough years Florida has had. But that can probably all be said without the shot at the Pens fan base. Just gets old when no discussion can ever stay civil on here without it devolving into childish remarks.

What issues are they stonewalling on? I've read they've moved toward the players again on the cap, that pension was resolved, they've agreed on the CBA term and the contract lengths. What's left for either side to stonewall?

I swear I read somewhere earlier they'd agreed to $64M (roughly, I think it was more than $64, less than $65) - the high end of last season is what they said, and that the floor would remain the same. Can't find it, though.

Very true. It is in the "suburbs." But they do have an arena is Phoenix itself: US Airways Center. The Yotes played there from 1996 to 2003, but then they relocated to Jobing.com, because it was better suited for hockey.

So they're kind of stuck.

The "deadline" was a deadline to file the DOI without having to vote again.

I just think it's ridiculous that a Pens fan is making childish remarks about Florida attendance (which was pretty decent last year anyway,) when they had problems that were far worse, and almost relocated just a few years ago.
