Looking tonight like NHL deal will get done in coming days. Took longer than we all thought, but it will be great to have the game back.
I tend to lean towards the owners on most of these issues, but the overwhelming sentiment on here that the players should just shut up and be happy with whatever offer the owners draw up is pretty silly. They have the right to be in there fighting for the best deal possible whether we agree with them or not.
From what i understand the Phoenix stadium is poorly located (a decent drive from Phoenix) which might be a fair point as to why they have attendance problems.
It's very feasible that the team fanbase would be much stronger if the arena was located in downtown Phoenix..
Florida's arena has to be the most obscurely located arena in the league. Its 45 minutes away from Miami, 20ish minutes away from the 2nd biggest market Ft Lauderdale. If you stand on the west end balcony you can look out and see the everglades.
Here is a picture of how far away the Panthers arena is from......everything. There are a lot of decent sized towns near there but its so far away from the major areas.
Very true. It is in the "suburbs." But they do have an arena is Phoenix itself: US Airways Center. The Yotes played there from 1996 to 2003, but then they relocated to Jobing.com, because it was better suited for hockey.
So they're kind of stuck.
i know, im just very hesitant to disregard fanbases that have circumstances tough than those of popular franchises. The Yotes are finally having success, but the ownership / relocation rumors / arena situation probably all dull the hype of the team in the locale.
I likewise, don't like assuming that Columbus can't be a hockey town when that team has never won a playoff game and been epically mismanaged.

Was the idea to put them in a place where they would be sort of equidistant from Miami and Fort Lauderdale?
More talking is okay...hard to keep track of what is still on the table. I'm pretty much at the point where I don't bother having a reaction to any tweets that don't have specifics in them (player names, dollar amounts, specific issues, time).

there are big fan bases in Coral Springs and Naples and such, that are north of the arena which is right near junctions of all the major highways, its actually pretty logical to have the arena there. Makes is equidistant for more than just two areas.
I can't wait for the hockey to get going again, so I'll start with a pre-emptively good natured '******* all y'all'. Now, hurry up and get this s*** done.
