I don't think so. It puts further pressure on the league. It's pretty much their last move...either to try and get one last concession before a deal is signed, or after the season gets cancelled.

I'd be really surprised if the owners have given Bettman the go-ahead to ****-can another season when the two sides are this close, which is the only way he can "counter" the DOI and put pressure on the PA. They were NOT this close when the last season was cancelled.

For such a "stupid" move, it worked well in the end game of the NFL and NBA discussions.

The union planned this out. They'll disclaim if Bettman cancels the season this week.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun
Players willing to keep cap floor at $44 M for Year 2 cap even with higher upper limit

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger
@Real_ESPNLeBrun.Believed to be less than $2mil gap on cap. Important issue to PA for players and families impacted by team cap management.

so what would that overall make the year 2 cap in the 63-64m range? or they trying to overall get the value which would equal what they wanted overall 70%

I'd say it's closer to 64m or so like this past season

Sources on both sides see Monday as likely date when all is settled. But could be late Sunday, as well
i believe that more than anything else i've read

Told NHLPA has moved on the salary cap to 64.3 which happens to be the upper limit from last year. #TSN

tim is great.

Kirshna, ill bet the final battle is that year 2 cap. players are around 63-64 as you said closer to 64.

the NHL came up from 60, but no word how much. My guess they are around 61 62 or 62.5

I believe that is what the mediator has left to do is bridge that and the deal is set.

It appears the PA settled at 64.3m like the guy above you previously set

With it even that high, there may be a lot of escrow changes during the year t omake sure it gets done right since the revenue may drop some

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper
Cap # for 2013-14 season closing in. Confirmed #NHL offer up to 62.5M. Some suggest #NHLPA might settle at 64.3M which is last yrs Cap hit

1.8m apart. 54m apart

The 4 million dollar drop in the cap floor might offset it. I guess I could spend half an hour on Capgeek with a calculator to find out how much teams might drop their payroll, but that doesn't sound like a thrilling way to spend a Saturday night. It would all come down to how much revenue drops anyways.

I'd like to see 64.3 just so we can compare the math

So NHL is at a 62.5 cap, and NHLPA is at ~64.5. This sounds like a really tough problem to solve.

hope theres something to this but we really wont know anything until papers are signed imo.

i've been reading that lots of the negotiating going on is not in writing so both sides are a little tentative right now, fearing that the other might renege.

Even if a season gets started I just don't see myself getting up for it like I normally am. Nothing to do with me being mad at either side or holding it against the NHL or not caring out of spite, its just that usually there is all the lead in to the season and figuring out lineups and so forth and so on that just isn't there right now. I'll still watch and root for the Flyers, but it just won't be the same this year. Next year will be back to normal for me.

Everyone in New York reporting on these matters and the progress they're making, so naturally Eskin decides to tweet that Gary Bettman is going to cancel the season within 48 hours because there's too many issues. OK, buddy

It was a good try Eskin, why don't you sit down and take a breather. Go ahead and sit this one out.

I can see what your saying. Like yesterday I was trying to put the defense together and was forgetting some players...

Timonen-Coburn
Schenn-Meszaros

I was like ****....we have Grossmann on this team. Even the forwards is more....foggy... then I usually am.

Do we still have Recchi and Desjardins?

Teams were advised two weeks ago to keep dates open for a 48-to-52 game sked. The NHL will try to keep as close to old sked as possible.
