Sue me but I thought murphy played really well this game. Its just IDIOTIC to put our two weakest D defensively (and physically) on the same pair. That was just asking for disaster and this is not the hindsight in me talking. Everyone and their mother knew things would eventually go wrong with those two on the ice at the same time on even strength.
4 on 4 is not a powerplay!
Murphy was solid for the first couple periods but after that he got really cocky with the puck which led to a few neutral zone turnovers.

I'm still baffled by Spott's decision to pair these guys up a couple games ago. Anyone with decent hockey knowledge would know to not put those two players together.
Ironically, I thought Murphy had his best game of the tournament tonight, until he looked completely lost on the OT winner. Offensively, he showed up tonight. Defensively, he still looks really shaky.
If Toews didn't score in the shootout 3 times... you can do this with almost any coach all day long.

For me, the true degree of separation between Spott and every other comparison is that I have never seen Canada be so outclassed in a game like they did against the Americans. They looked downright horrific. Absolute props to the Americans for their performance, to be sure, but there's a difference between Canada getting beat, which is going to happen, and Canada looking completely outclassed and unprepared. THAT, I have not seen in some time at this level.

We saw it a year ago in Calgary. Some flukey late goals covered it up a bit, but we got run over just as bad then as we did now. Its becoming a regular occurrence in the medal round.

I'm not sure if it has been posted yet (apologies if it has), but I just read a pretty level-headed and accurate article on Team Canada at this year's world juniors. As always Mckenzie has a way to put things into perspective and I almost agree with everything he says here.
Well, I spent 5 minutes reading this. It seems, according to Mckenzie, this year's excuse is the way selection of the players has been performed. It is completely in line with Canadian perception of hockey - we cannot lose due to worse hockey team. Okay. Nothing new.

Not many words about USA being the most dominant team in the tournament. Why not just face the fact that Canada was the 4th best team in this tournament and move on?

No because Russia and Sweden never write articles in the past about their team dropping out like failures in a tournament.

Look HC has the benefit of the best development league in the world in the CHL,
they have a national commitment to the game and to develop the young players.
But in the end, players play and coaches coach.
Did they come out flat in the Semi gam against te USA ? Hell yes. But it was reported that RNH talked to the team the night before about the issue while they were preparing for the game. And still they came out the way they did.
Remember Gibson has been channeling Jim Craig all tourney and has made big save after big save. But so has Subban and without Binningtons relief performance the semi final iy might have been 7 or 8 to one. Hopefully Binnington can put the Russia game behind him and Subban can too (he's freakishly athletic a little technical tuning.... oh my(
As I've told many a player, learn to accept defeat, but never learn to like it, take your own measure as to your performance and learn from your mistakes. The worst regret they will ever have as athletes is that they didn't give their very best effort. not the winning or the losing, but the striving is what matters. and maybe what haunts us in old age.
And to all in Canada, Thanks for being the very best 'neighbor' a country can have.

Hate for Canadian writers, posters, fans, journalists, players in both writing and taunting by players and fan. Yet, you all flock to our media like a flies to a lamp.
It sucks that we lost, but we need to lose the attitude that Gold medals are just going to be handed to us on a silver platter and everyone else is playing for Silver. It hasn't been true for decades.
