cotsonika 1:15pm via Web Not exactly breaking news, but here's what I've got on good authority: There is reason to be optimistic, but it is all very tenuous.

My guess is it's all worked out except where the celebrity boxing match between Bettman and Donald Fehr will be held and what the gate split's gonna be.

Bruce Garrioch ‏@SunGarrioch Yes, conference games only RT @DP_57 conference games only though right?

Better than Division only games, but STH's are still getting screwed IMO if there's a season.

So far, I'm seeing reports of:

10 year CBA with a chance of an opt out after year 8
7 or 8 year contract limits
~64 million salary cap

That cap ($64.3mm) is for the 13-14 season.

Cap for 2013 season is what was set last summer.

Also apparently a couple of compliance buyouts available (unclear if that's "now", "any time before 13-14 season" or 2013 summer).

Yeah, 64 for next season. This season is the pro-rated ~70mm.

I'm pretty sure the two amnesty buyouts are for next summer since the buy-out period for this season ended over the summer before the official "lock-out". Unless they give a new one or two week window, but I don't see that happening since the salary cap is the same for this season. I don't really see any potential buy-out candidates for the Sharks. Niemi I guess if they really need the space.

he will be bought out by his contract coming to an end next season, same as clowe.

the sharks next year will have roughly 10 million to sign 8 players.

No need to buy out Handzus or Murray. THeir contracts expire after this year and they will be UFAs (unless the Sharks re-sign them before July 1st -high unlikely).

Correct.
And of those 10 players, the biggest questions are Demers and Clowe. (I doubt Murray gets resigned. If he does, it'll have to be for cheap.)

We'll then need a backup goalie and as always, our bottom 6.

At initial glance, pretty darn doable with $10m to spend. Whether or not DW decides to stay the course with this squad next season is a bigger question.

Finally, some great news...so happy hockey is back!

Any idea when the new 48-50 game schedule will be released? I can't remember how the schedule was handled after the '94/'95 lockout...was it a 100% new schedule, or were games added & worked around the original schedule?

Are Niemi and Havlat the only real candidates for a buyout? However unlikely that would be.
