I wonder if there's any language in the new CBA preventing a rich team from trading for a poorer team's albatross before the buyout period, along with other assets? Like, Montreal's 5th round pick for Dipietro and the Isles' 1st pick, and then the Habs use one of their buyouts on Dipietro? I could see Burke trying to pull something like this for the Leafs.

Could we possibly keep both Gomer and Kaberle and also sign PK until the season's over?

Poor Poor PK, probably should have signed before the lockout. Surely will receive a contract 20% less then he would have a year ago. Oh well.

We should keep at least Gomer and trade with the Islanders or Tampa for dipietro and a 2nd pick or Vinny and a 2nd pick. Then just buy them out. Gain another second and it's Gomez's last season anyway. Kabs will be worth a second by trade deadline, that would give us like what 4 or 5 picks in the 2nd round this year. There are many better options then just flat out buying our own players out.
Remember, we have money and we want to suck this year.

Most teams will be shedding salary. No one wanted Gomez or Kaberle with bigger cap ceilings. They certainly aren't going to want them now. Buy them out and be happy with it.

Gomez still has another year and the Islanders can buy out DiPietro, why would they move him? As for Vinny I doubt the Bolts move him

Kaberle won't be bought out IMO in case anything happens to Markov. I'm sure they hang on to him

They are definitely buying out Kaberle. He makes the only logical sense. Buying out Bourque would be nice but we already went through UFA period without addressing a true top 6 winger, leaving him in that position, with no prospects ready to take a top 6 role and Bergevin neglecting the fact we need some more offense, buying out Bourque isn't an option.

I'd rather play St. Denis than Kaberle at this point in their careers. There's no real insurance for Markov. He's one of the best D in the league when healthy. Kaberle is horrible.

I also don't see us buying out Bourque and I think he still holds value and is tradable. I hope your right but I think if the Habs do buy out a player for this year it will only be Gomez

With two buy-outs.. Kaberle and Gomez are the only two logical choices. Whether or not they use both, remains to be seen. I definitely would. I think we're tight to the cap and that's without PK being signed.

Because the Isles' and Bolts' owners may not be keen to spend that buyout cash.

I think Bourque can still get it together and become a solid 20-goal winger for us. Would not buy him out as there are worse contracts on the roster.

This is good news just for the sake that next draft won't be decided by balls.....So we will have at sucking again and with the next draft, finally make our team a great one for years to come......And some hockey will be played.

I love to read when people write that it's back at hating the Leafs and the Bruins.....my prediction will be that it will be back at hating....the Habs.

Lets hope Calgary and Nashville stink it up this year as well..........Going to be a great draft if they do.

Agreed. Kaberle is in. Bourque may be out, if Galchenyuk makes it. We just don't have a reasonable option for Kaberle like we have for Bourque.

Maxpac - Desharnais - Cole
Galchenyuk - Pleckanec - Gionta
Prust - Eller - Leblanc
(Whatever) + Moen

I think we need to wait for the exact wording of the buyout clause. Can we wait next year for that buyout ? etc. (So it should be treated like an asset.) Gomez is obvious, he's at a point where the NHL is not a sure thing for him in terms of production.

Not so sure. Short seasons often produce weird stuff. I think we will be (at least) a bubble team as long as Markov is in the lineup.

totally agree. I'm not sold on the fact that we're getting a top 5 pick. We do have a top 6 that consists of wingers who've all had multiple 25+ goal seasons (except Pacioretty). 2 of the better PP QBs in the game. Solid youth who should only get better. Shored up our toughness.

I'm not saying we're contenders but to think we're guaranteed a top 5 pick is almost as unlikely.
