That sounds like TSN has an inherent grasp for the painfully obvious.

There is a chance, yes. However, Gillis is a players GM first, so he will try to get Luongo what he wants if he can. Personally, I don't think Luongo finishes the year with VAN.

Another guy I think Vancouver could really use is Matt Frattin. I think he's better than Kadri, albeit older, and theres a much better chance he makes a difference earlier on. He won't have problems coming into the NHL and scoring goals. He's a RW sniper, is that not what Vancouver needs? I'd rather keep Frattin than Kadri but, again, they're guys you make available for Luo

This thing is gonna get interesting. Not only will a team be getting an elite goaltender, but also a fiery competitor and workhorse who wants to win so damn badly. That sort of attitude is infectious and would be added value to both Florida (strong influence on younger players) or Toronto.

If I'm Burke, there is no deal if Vancouver insists on a first rounder. Even a conditional first. It's an absolute no-go as a starting point. As is Morgan Rielly.

Brian Burke's job will not survive if he trades yet again another top-three pick for what is essentially a band-aid. And I think he knows that, too.

Honestly I don't think Vancouver even wants a pick. They're in win mode now, I think Gillis wants one of two things: 1) a young promising player that can contribute now, or 2) a prime aged player who can be a big time contributor this year. Not a few spare parts, the package will have to include quality.

My guess is FLA isn't as resistant to the idea of trading a 1st, so they would seem like better candidates at this point. Especially because of that buyout mechanic.

We're less interested in picks and more with actual players who could impact the roster. Although, I'd move Schneider for the better return myself.

Just because you think that does not make it true. I would not count on Burke knowing crap you made up on your own based on nothing.

Since you are in a good mood today:

Gardiner, Franson, 2014 1st for Schneider?

Sorry, were you in Toronto when the Bruins selected Seguin 2nd overall? Burke is a smart man. He'll not make that same mistake again.

I agree that him trading our first is unlikely, however that has nothing to do with the post I responded to in which the poster stated as a fact that Burke would be fired if another pick he traded became a top 3.

It's too easy to make these claims... I will say that I more or less agree though. Saying that, in no way am I concerned that it will happen.

Frankly, I'm a bit worried we're sending Kadri to Vancouver along with Bozak and Franson for Lu. I'd rather not...

With the cap guaranteed to go down he gets even harder to trade next season. Teams wont be looking to add that kind of salary. Especially knowing the cap will go down again the year after.

I believe the opposite it true. He has a very soft cap hit, and with 2 buyouts available, there is opprotunity to adjust rosters to make things work.

Luongo's cap hit will make him more attractive.

Look around the league, 5.3M for an elite goaltender is a good deal.

5.3 million for a elite goalie is good but the problem is not now it is when Lou is 38 to 39 does that 5.3 million cap hit look horrible?

The cap is going down over 10m over the next 2 years. Adding a 5.3M player still isnt that easy to do even with the buyouts. Its around a 16M dollar difference in salary not easy for anyone to work around.
How many teams have 2 contracts they want to buy out.
