I guess you dont mind that the NHL and the PA prove every few years that us fans mean NOTHING to them.

I have a problem with that.

This new AHL salary above 900k counts against the cap rule means Slats needs to be careful with his yearly horrendous 4th line signing. The Patrick Rissmiller's and Brash's of the world will now count against the cap. Can't hide them in Hartford any longer. Thankfully it seems like we will be able to navigate out of the last year of the Redden contract or else that would have been a cluster F with the cap going down.
That is a really, REALLY good point. Presuming there is no language regarding existing "circumvention contracts" in the CBA we haven't heard about, you might well want to hold on to that amnesty buyout until summer '14 for that reason. He'll be 34 with a $6.67MM cap hit for 6 more years...

Certainly I'd want to hold on to it until I knew what the cap would be for '14-'15...

I was under the impression the Compliance Buyouts need to be used before 2013-2014

I just looked at stats and was shocked at a couple things 1) kreider only have 12 points (including 5 goals) this season in the ahl in 32/33 games and 2) if Gilroy is signed to an nhl contract by nyr he is a -16 (worst on the team in the ahl)

kreider I hope is just motivation and hopefully he can pull it together when he plays in the nhl, but torts may keep him the ahl until his game picks up. Gilroy I don't have clue. newbury is the leading scorer, kolarik 2nd, and hrivik in 3rd who I like and I think will get a shot in camp.

Are there any fancy youtube videos that just refer to the '13 New York Rangers?

No, that was one of the things that came out later in the morning:

You can't use them until this summer, but you also have the option of using them next summer.

That's great and so do I, you're entitled to do what you want so if acting bitter makes you feel better by all means enjoy. I'm just going to watch the Rangers and enjoy the sport I love.

Is it just this summer and next for the 2 buyouts?

The Rangers will be in no position to buy out Richards in the summer of 2014, unless his game completely goes off the cliff.

So am I. I could do it with putting minimal dollars into the game.

Acting bitter? Thats rich. I guess thats better than being ignorant and pretending that this vicious cycle can't be stopped.

I think the rangers have to seriously think of buying out Richards after the 14-15 season if that is what this new CBA allows for.

Cool, it's insane how much more excited I've gotten since yesterday, trying to see if the Devils@Rangers late January game is going to go as scheduled before I nab some tickets. May just be doing my in front of MSG ticket grabs. (They've been hit or miss, sat 5 rows off the bench for $80, sat obstructed 300's for $100...thankfully next to some sexy german ladies who were impressed with my german )

I honestly dont see why they shouldn't be able to start on the 15th now.. How long does it take to vote/ratify?

Depends how the next 2 seasons go, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that as a possibility when the time comes.

How would that really have been that much different? Instead, you're going to get a compressed and condensed season where the first three weeks of play will be marginal at best because they're giving the teams zero time to get ready

This.

My brother woke me up saying Merry Christmas, I knew exactly what he meant.

Sucks it will obviously be a shortened season, but every game will mean so much. Will be fun to follow.

Who wants to meet up at the Blarney if the opening game is away?

Free agency period and length of training camp/pre-season are also in play here.

Big ups to Scot Beckenbaugh. Without that guy I doubt this ever got done. Too many egos on both sides to come to a deal without a mediator.

Prior to 13-14 and 14-15 for the compliance buyouts. Not after 14-15.

The cap for 2013 is really $60M but the NHL has a $70.2M upper limit as a transitional cap. All of the contracts count under $70.2M. $44M floor.
