yeah I understand that, but from what I'm hearing, camp is only gonna be a week long. that would put it at the 14th for the end of it, with a 15th start. Couldn't they start game while ratifying the CBA?

Really? I don't see anything in the ultimate agreement that couldn't have been agreed to November.

The one day I don't wake up at 6am...

Time for Hank to get those 30 wins

Thanks.

Unless the team wins a cup before the summer of 2014, they are not buying out Richards.

Sather has a year and a half to make another dumb signing - it'll be nice to have that in his back pocket.

I still don't see how Bettman can sell this to the owners. If I'm an owner I still don't see what I really got — at least not to the degree where I would lose 3 months of gates.

Dolan wanted no part of this because in a city of 8 million, you can find 18,000 people to go to a game every night.

50/50.. I think thats what they wanted the whole time really, and then just pushed for anything else they could get.

Yup. Same goes for the players who lost $1B+ in paychecks.

We're supposed to be thankful that somethings coming back that shouldnt have been delayed in the first place?

This does nothing to address the long term issues of the league.

well you don't have to worry about it until at least 20-21 for another lockout so enjoy it.

Thankful? No. Who's thankful?

Happy? Absolutely.

You're mistaking people being happy with the league and being happy that their favorite sport is back. Huge difference.

Certainly I'd want to hold on to it until I knew what the cap would be for '14-'15...
Great point.

Richards has tremendous instincts and is top notch on the point. But his skating is subpar and he can't transport the puck etc. Production is not a given for him. And like a injury bug for a year or two could really set him back.

If he starts to struggle in the coming years, that buyout could be worth it. Especially if we also can target someone else on July 1st.

Look at Drury, Redden and Gomez. Y1 were ok. Y2, it started to smell. Y3 they were history all three already basically. Richard definitely doesn't have to follow that path. With Nash on board, if our PP takes off, he could be back to Dallas form before we know it. But I would lie if I didn't say that I was somewhat concerned.

Also, the owners did get contract limits, no more insane 10+ year deals given out that makes it less likely for other teams to be in the running for Free Agents. If all anyone can give out is 7 years, more people are in the mix.

The hardliners on both sides were obviously preventing any kind of real negotiation.

Agreed. Honestly, as I've gotten older, I've more and more come 'round to the philosophy of "life's too short." I'm focused on the fact that the sport I love is back, my team should be very good (if not great) and I don't have to worry about this **** again for at least eight more years. I could give two ***** about punishing any of the parties involved.

What? Just about every aspect of this deal is better for the owners than the previous one.

And any owner who is upset about missing 3 months of gates isn't going to want to miss any more beyond this anyway.

We knew when we signed brad we were hurting ourselves down the line for a boost for the next 2-4 years. We signed a huge deal with a big cap hit for a center in his 30's.

I'm not going to pretend he though hadn't occurred to me, but I would bet that even after a potential off year there would be trade suitors lining up to grab him for a hefty price.

You get a bad year from Brad and a great year from Stepan, you might see it. Otherwise probably not.

As Ola pointed out, the other factor you have to consider is who else might be available that year...

The long term issue for the league is supporting 30 franchises, some of which are in terrible markets. The 7% boost in revenue is huge for those little guys.

7% of the last full season total revenue of $3.3B is $231M, which goes right into the owners pockets.

That also means the players are losing that money. Regardless of any other details, 50/50 from year one is a major win for the NHL.

Question is;

If any one other than us wins the cup, do we consider them "real champs"?

Also can anyone explain this tidbit;

Quote:
"Draft lottery will change. All 14 teams fully eligible for 1st pick overall
Does it mean any team can Get the first pick?

Larry Brooks discussed the Redden situation a few months ago

Quote:
Ironically, “The Wade Redden Rule” would harm Redden himself if adopted as written. An amnesty buyout would allow the 35-year-old to sign with another team as a free agent. But denied that opportunity (there is no amnesty buyout provision in the NHL’s proposal), Redden will be consigned to the AHL for the next two seasons while the Rangers operate with $6.5 million of dead cap space. They are not adding him to the roster.
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/more_...TunNVQ9lZXudCI

At that time, the NHL didn't want any compliance buyouts. The Wade Redden rule will hurt Redden in 2013. No compliance buyouts until June.

The pro-rated amount of $6.5M minus $900,000.

Don't know how true this is, but the bolded seems pretty significant.

Players held the line on a US$64.3-million cap in 2013-14, and got a guarantee it can't drop beyond that in future years of the deal.

1/15 or 1/19 depending on whether it's a 50 or 48 game schedule.
