Davos has a stacked team too. Canada lost that opener but I think they were pretty jet lagged.

How does the tournament work exactly. Out of all the international tournaments, it's probably the one I pay the least amount of attention to. From what I gather it's Canada vs other non-national teams from a variety of leagues. Are we the only national team?

From what I can tell it's the top team from each European elite league that season. Don't take my word for it though. And I'm pretty sure Canada is the only National team as a team like Davos had Thornton and a few others.

Canada and Davos are always in the tournament, while different club teams are invited every year.

The way Colaiacovo is playing were about 10 minutes from someone starting another

They weren't jet lagged at all, they are all players playing in Europe.

What a goal by Bergeron. On his butt, pokes at the puck for the opening goal.

Didn't know they mic up the refs so you can hear what the players are saying during faceoffs. Pretty cool.

How in the world are the Barons going to cope losing Eberle, Hall, Schultz, RNH, MPS and possibly Hartikainen?

At least the Marlies have some veteran AHL players leading their scoring.

How about Magnitogorsk?

Malkin and Kulemin 2nd. and 3rd. leading scorers.

They really haven't been a great team with them even, only thing they were able to see is that their offensive prospects well. I mean schultz was still having a hard time in the AHL defense wise, even though he was slowly picking it up, he still has ways to go before he can play defensive well in the NHL. Offensively...yea he's amazing.

That's because they have a very young defense. They knew and accepted that the team would struggle, but because they had so much depth on defense in the prospects they were willing to live with it. I suppose they accept it is a development program, and put the job of "playing the kids" at both the AHL and the NHL level.

Check out the ages of their defense, check out how many games their kids have played, and then compare that to the ages of the Marlies defense and how many games they have played.

For those wondering how much exposure hockey is getting in some of the southern states.

Apparently, all the Flames new players are in camp skating.

Roman Cervenka has had a blood clot and was taking thinners but I guess he's skating.

Going to be interesting to see how Feaster's makeover does here.

From the TSN home page

The Anaheim Ducks have named former team captain Scott Niedermayer as an assistant coach with the organization. Niedermayer, who retired from the NHL in 2010 and remained with the Ducks as a Hockey Operations consultant, helped Anaheim become the first team from California to win the Stanley Cup in 2007.

What former Leafs could you guys see as being assistant coaches? Obviously Scott is a cut above majority of other defensemen in this World, but still. Discuss.

Gilmore, this guy should have ties with the leafs. Get this guy on the bench and players will listen.

This seems to be one of the things that the Leafs haven't really taken advantage of. Considering we've seen Rod the Bod, Mark Messier, Steve Yzerman, Doug Gilmour (Kingston), Patrick Roy, the list goes on and on of former players stepping behind the bench or in the press box. Carlyle and Eakins are both former players as well. I think it really helps if you have players that have played in the area and know the mentality of the city and how to handle it. Really helps the players playing now.
