To take on a $4.5m winger? No, we're really not. We've got JvR at $4.25m, Kessel at $5.4m, Kulemin at $2.8, and Lupul at likely $4m+. No need for a guy like Malone.

Its a moot point anyway, with the cap set at 64.3 million next year, we are a million under that mark currently. With have to resign or replace the following.

Marc Bergeron (which we won't, we have a younger and better kid in the minors that will get paid less than him in Mark Barberio.)

Benoit Pouliot (1.8 million currently, can't imagine him getting more than that unless he blows us away this year.)

BJ Crombeen (1 million cap hit. Have kids banging on the door for the NHL currently, his spot will be taken most likely by one of them. For cheaper I might add.)

Adam Hall (650k, A kid will take his spot, probably will get about the same, may jump another 100k or 2....)

J.T Wyman (Minor leaguer that may see some time on our fourth line, so I don't even know why I'm adding him to be honest. :/ )

Nate Thompson (900k Cap hit, will resign for about the same.)

Garon (1.3 million cap hit. May resign or not, depending on how Helenius finishes the season in the AHL. Most likely will resign, can't imagine for more though, probably a couple hundred thousand less.)

We approximately have 6.7 million to resign these players adjusting for the future cap hit of 64.3 million, or simply replace them with prospects that are NHL ready now or extremely close. Simply put, having Malone on our roster is not a negative, so we won't get rid of him. (Unless traded of course.)

TB won't buy him out, the next few season he is only being paid 2.5mil, with that cap hit and only paying him 2.5mil a lot of teams would want him. EDM will take him, what do you want for him?

Edmonton's weakness is the same as Tampa's.....we would be horrible trading partners to be honest. We could use some defensive prospects. The cup hold for us isn't bare, but in comparison to the rest of our pipeline its a shriveled grape.
