NHL AND NHLPA REACH DEAL ON COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT!

A tentative deal on a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement has been reached between the NHL and NHL Players' Association.

"We have reached an agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed to reporters early Sunday morning. ""I want to thank Don Fehr. We still have more work to do, but it's good to be at this point."

According to TSN Hockey Analyst Aaron Ward, part of the agreement saw the league come off their demand for $60 million cap in Year 2 of the new deal to meet the NHLPA's request to have it at $64.3 million - which was the upper limit from last year's cap.

I'm still waiting for word if they've included any of the punitive language meant to punish teams currently with long-term contracts. For example, if a player retires, will that player still count against the cap?

On NHL.com, it still says Jan. 15th and Buffalo's first game is against the Sens but I don't believe it'll be set up that soon.

It hasn't been signed. It needs to be finalized and approved by both parties first.

And, the lockout is over the second the league says it is, since they are the ones that initiated it.
