What was the cap this past year? Teams have to do some trading?

That's interesting. We'd be stuck with Chris Campoli.

Just saw this. Hugged my father and let out a huge sigh of relief. Can't wait. This is amazing. Never should have come to this, but we have some damn hockey to look forward to. Woo!

Pretty close to the deal the players offered in early December when the owners walked out in 15min.

There is no way Saad makes this team as a top 6 forward. I saw him play yesterday and he isn't even close to being a top 6 forward even in the AHL.

So can someone clarify something for me....

2013/14 the cap will be $64.3 mil right?

2012/13 the cap is $60 mil but $70 mil during the "transitionary" period? What does that mean?

@ChrisKuc: Every player I've talked to thus far has raved about the job Donald Fehr is doing with the NHLPA. #Blackhawks

Pretty sure it means if you are over the cap you dont have to dump players but you can't add anyone and teams under $60 mil can't go over

Would agree with the former but not the latter. It'll do him good to spend the rest of the season with the Hogs.

Well the coach of Rockford agrees with me, Saad saw limited playing time yesterday, probably one of the lowest TOI in the game. (LeBlanc, Beach, and Paradis had more ice time)

I'm guessing he saw limited ice time because the organization knew that the lockout was coming to an end and didn't want him hurt for training camp/the Hawks season. Granlund got pulled out of his game with the Aero's yesterday too. Precautionary measure that if anything indicates the Hawks think highly of him and want to give him top-six minutes.

Except the NHLPA refused contract limits , Had absurd variance and no real 50/50 splits

Also had guranteed raises and the players wanted a 5 yr CBA

Not close to deal just signed ,, The December NHLPA offer was just a altered version fo there original (And until this month) only offer

So great to be back and finally going to see me some Hawk games again. Bowman now has a short period of time to make some big decisions before the games actually start. At least one defense man must be moved due to the over crowding. I can easily see Hammy being traded within the next few days as other than Keith, Seabs and Leddy, the others basically would bring nothing in return.

I can't wait to read the rules for these buyouts, I think we're going to see some nasty stuff with these depending on how they're written.

Arbitration rules will be interesting as well, players should use arbitration more than they do, I think this is an improvement.

Cap floor, combined with buyouts, will take away from some of the parity I've grown fond of. I'm not too happy about that.

200 million sharing still way too low to fix long-term issues. Also, players going to have a tough time making up money they lost, most won't get it back, some will come out ahead over the next few seasons.

Cap variance doesn't do enough, probably should have just let contracts stay were they were since they added two buyouts. Contract lengths don't do much to protect smaller clubs and bigger clubs didn't need that much help there in my opinion. I don't think this does anything to improve the quality of the product and I don't think it will have more than a marginal positive impact on more than a few players and a few owners. I'll have to see the rest of the CBA to make a stronger opinion on that issue.

With so much focus on short term cash, I'm getting a little bothered by how little attention was paid to how the rules will impact actual play. Maybe they can clean some of the language up for the final document.

Too bad US jrs didn't get to enjoy a few days of press coverage and quality coverage from bigger outlets in the states. Would have been much better for hockey in the U.S. overall. After 113 days, I could have waited 2 or 3 more for it to end while the US program received some worthy recognition and U.S. media acquainted themselves with future players. Coverage is so bad in some many markets, as a fan of the sport that was the one thing I was really excited about with the U.S. junior win. Even the NHL soured that as almost all the media that bothers to cover hockey will jump right to the lockout story in the states.

I'm glad there's NHL hockey, but this agreement (as it's been reported so far) really leaves a bad taste in my mouth for all the fuss the last 4 months.

Hopefully US corporate support for the league or major sports in general, isn't damaged too much.

I am happy that we have at least 8 years before the next stoppage though.

Time to catchup and review on the unsigned players and injuries around the league again.

It was closer to the PA offer than it was to ANY NHL offer.

If they negotiated off of that PA offer, we could of had hockey before xmas. But they walked out in 15mins.

Well that's disappointing and not what many reports have been which is that Saad is one of the best players on the ice, even if it isn't showing up on the scoresheet.

Maybe he was held out for precautionary reasons, ala Granlund in Houston.

He was less than impressive in the ice time he did get. He also got nailed in the first so maybe they were using precautionary measures. But when he was on the ice, he was avg at best.

This is coming from someone who is neutral on his potential, don't love him, don't hate him.

Because the Dec 6 deal had no true linkage

It was not a 50/50 deal at any point truly and all risk was thrown on NHL if revenues fell short

So? Negotiate it and you don't waste a month. Don't walk out in 15mins.

Great news, though I've already decided not to give the NHL any money (unless I visit my brother in North Carolina and we catch a Canes game) for at least a year after the lockout ends. Hope more people do the same to show the players and the owners that there are repercussions for holding the game hostage like this.

They didn't save a half a season, they flushed half a season down the toilet.

If you are really that angry you need to reassess your overall lookout on things.

Blah, this deal was leaked by an NHL governor a month ago and posted on ESPN. It's always been there, the NHL has been trying to milk the PA. The two week break, storming out... all child antics.

Based on everything I think he got them the best possible deal and still saved a season. He did his job and a very difficult one.
