#3 at best, probably a decent to good #4. Very similar to Grossmann but more physical.

For a while I had a lot of these guys rated a lot higher than I do now, but I took a step back and tried to look at them like I do another team's prospects. It's pretty tough with all of our wingers though.

This isn't including 2012 draftees, either. Bystrom could have 1st pairing potential, but I haven't seen or read enough about him and it's too soon regardless.

And then there's Sinitsyn, of course.

I'm not sure if you knew that's what I was referring to. I'd have to be insane to think he'll ever be a #2. There are only 3 guys currently on this team that I think will ever have a chance to be a legit top line defender: Goligoski (already is IMO), Larsen, and Oleksiak.
You're right. Thought you were going the other direction.

Yeah when I said Gill earlier I was careful to say at the top end. Vance is a guy I'd love to see get in the mix, but I don't have strong feelings one way or the other on his ability to become an NHL regular.

He has just as good a chance or taking Boris Valabik's career path.

I just had a thought about a potential training camp starting soon and some of Dallas' non-AHL prospects.

Faksa and Ritchie will be done with the WJC by the 5th, and camp will potentially begin on the 11th or 12th. They're already away from their junior teams, and an extra week wouldn't hurt them. Plus, Ritchie is apparently dealing with more than one nagging injury so a week off from actual games could allow him to heal a bit.

I honestly don't expect either to be given a legitimate chance to earn an NHL spot. Despite the Reilly Smith situation, I just don't believe Dallas is the type of team to keep burning years on the ELC for partial seasons.

That also makes me wonder why the Isles and Bruins would burn valuable ELC years on Strome and Hamilton. You'd hope those two despite being NHL ready would just stay with Ritchie in Niagara for the rest of the year. To me, that's the logical move for a team like the Isles who are always looking for ways to spend less, and makes a ton of sense for a team like the Bruins who constantly spend to the cap.

That be a huge boost for Niagara and Ritchie.

Even if their NHL teams leave them in the OHL they could still get traded to a different OHL team if Niagara looks to restock.

That is true, but I'd honestly be pretty surprised. They were so close last season, and they are currently in 3rd place in the East.

The road to the Memorial Cup likely goes through London, but they wouldn't face them until the OHL Championship.

It's only a hunch, but I imagine the Niagara fan base we be rather disappointed if the team looked to the future when they have a potential championship team. If they add a piece or two, they already have high end talent plus one of the better goalies in the OHL.

EDIT: That said ... if Niagara starts selling pieces you can guarantee Ritchie is heading out as well. I'm not so concerned about him playing with Strome specifically as I am with him playing for a team that can go deep in the playoffs. I think we can agree that Niagara's chances plummet if Strome and Hamilton are in the NHL.

OK, this is required viewing -- go here, look over on the right side of the screen and scroll down to the "JR. HOCKEY VIDEO" box. There are 6 videos labeled "On The Edge". It's a 24/7-style documentary on Saskatoon's team this year. The videos are accessible to Americans as well.

Great recommendation. Seeing the coach get emotional after cutting Cox was awesome. That's the kind of organization you'd want to play for ... he obviously cares about his players.

Any particular reason Smith's slowed down so much recently?

And Winther seems like a very streaky player already.

Just found out a girl in my college class is cousins with Troock, I should ask her why he is always injured.

I wouldn't say that streaky. His longest pointless streak for the last 2 months was only 2 games.

As compared with last WJC he has improved. The expectation was so high and he wasn't so lucky in scoring. Maybe that sized ice doesn't work for him as well. I can't see only disappointments in his performance at WJC.

Anyway, i was really surprised about his fairytale season last year. Was he in first line in Kitchener ? If so, may be that this is the point. Our first line was so much dominated in scoring this WJC.

I really hope Ritchie gets a camp invite. Might as well at this point. Hamilton's good as gone. Strome probably has a good chance of going to NY.

The reports out of the OHL (have not seen him play) are that his defensive game is just as good if not better. We all expected he'd be a solid two-way player at the next level.

That said, his scoring hasn't improved a ton, and he also dealt with a mystery illness. I don't think there's confirmation it's behind him, but it hasn't been mentioned in a while.

That said, I think it'd be wrong to jump to conclusions that he's a one trick pony in the NHL. Maybe he won't be an elite offensive threat, but some guys take a bit longer to dominate the OHL too. Look at Ritchie. No one really had faith in his offensive game. Now in his 19 year old season he's blowing up, and people (Bob McKenzie even mentioned it as a possibility today) are talking about him being a candidate for Dallas' training camp and a serious look at the NHL.

My point is that the fact he's not dominating the OHL offensively right this second doesn't seem to be a condemnation of his ability to eventually be a solid offensive option in the NHL. He may not be a point per game producer, but he could be a dominant two way player that can pot 40 to 60 points. That's still invaluable to a team.

Bob McKenzie said Dallas is mulling the idea, but he also said that it's not a certainty Hamilton and Strome will stick in the NHL.

Like I brought up before, I think teams will be gun shy about burning an entire year of the ELC for only 50 games.

I don't mind him coming for the camp but I hope Dallas is gunshy about burning his ELC on 50 games. Ritchie needs to play top line minutes and with the way the roster is set right now that's not going to happen. Let him play in Niagara and hope he gets traded for a playoff run. His opportunity for a spot should come up next year when Morrow and Jagr are gone.
