I personally don't see Desharnais at center long-term. Giving Lecavalier a 3-4 year deal until Galchenyuk is ready to take over the center spot (look at Seguin, he's still a year or so away from player center in the NHL) gives us good size.

Our top two lines would be made up of Pacioretty, Lecavalier, Cole, Desharnais, Gionta and Plekanec. Eller, Galchenyuk and Leblanc on the third line.

I think Kabs and Bourque are both tradable. We won't get good value for them but they're tradable nonetheless.

I'm pretty sure none of the mentioned (Gomez, Bourque,Kaberle,Markov) will be bought out.

The Habs are in no position to win anything in the next few years anyway.

Gomez will probably be traded for a 6th or 7th round pick at the end of the season. He won't be bought out.

Even at the end of his front loaded contract, he'll be making 4.5m next season. I don't see a budget team paying that much for Gomez, and definitely not a cap team at the 7.3mil hit. IMO a buyout is a very safe bet.

So how do you suggest we get to 64.3 M in 2013-14?

Not sure what the last line has to do with buyouts. There will be no dead cap space.

Well if we need to cut salary to remain under the cap, we'll buy out one or several of them. Only time will tell.

I will give you the official GM answer as approve by Montreal's communication director : We are happy with our current line up and we will wait until the end of the season to make a decision on this matter.

Gomez will be bought out for sure. Maybe Kaberle but certainly not Bourque

Trading Gomez,Kaberle or Bourque is better than buying them out anyways, Bergevin will keep his options open.

They have to pay 44 mil in cap hit, so if the budget is tight and they are weak at center it's not a bad gamble to take, with a new start I think he would be a much better player.

I'm with you on this. Gomez for sure after this season. Likely Kaberle but that depends if he can bounce back or not this season. The only way Bourque gets consideration is if he has another disasterous season. I think his contract is quite reasonable given his production the last few seasons. He's got another 48-50 games to prove him can bounce back.

With the new cap, Bourque, Kaberle, Gomez and probably Markov are not tradeable.

We're not the only team looking to give away some overpaid players.

Also, the team will suck this year. And next year too. Because he has the longest contract, and even though he didn't have that many games to prove himself, Rene Bourque should be the guy to buy out first.

I see no reason to trade Markov.

I sure hope Therrien doesn't put Eller on a line with Prust and Bourque.

So far Therrien's intentions is to put Eller on the wing with Plekanec and Gionta. There was an article a while back with that info. I hope it's not the case. Eller just hasn't worked on the wing as the position doesn't exploit his talents.

Bourque was injured back then though.

Whoever has the worse season this year.
Every player like Bourque and Kaberle are on a 48-50 game audition to keep their jobs.
Buyout the two that have the worse performance/$ ratio on your team.

It's not rocket science. In Montreal, that's Gomez and Bourque/Kaberle.

If it at some point in the season it is the third line I agree with you if it the fouth line then HABS MANAGEMENT are those who are PATHETIC. The way I see it they have plan for Prust you don't spend 2.5 M on a fourth liner and Bourque at 3.3M. Eller is the only one you name who has descent salary and he is the only one who is in game shape right now.

No body's mentioning Markov as a possible buyout candidate. What if he completely sucks and can barely skate in the nhl?
