Unless he plays wing, where would he play with Eller, Plekanec, Desharnais and maybe even Galchenyuk? Should the habs even bother with him at this point in his career? I don't think so
I personally don't see Desharnais at center long-term. Giving Lecavalier a 3-4 year deal until Galchenyuk is ready to take over the center spot (look at Seguin, he's still a year or so away from player center in the NHL) gives us good size.
Our top two lines would be made up of Pacioretty, Lecavalier, Cole, Desharnais, Gionta and Plekanec. Eller, Galchenyuk and Leblanc on the third line.
Gomez will probably be traded for a 6th or 7th round pick at the end of the season. He won't be bought out.
Even at the end of his front loaded contract, he'll be making 4.5m next season. I don't see a budget team paying that much for Gomez, and definitely not a cap team at the 7.3mil hit. IMO a buyout is a very safe bet.
I will give you the official GM answer as approve by Montreal's communication director : We are happy with our current line up and we will wait until the end of the season to make a decision on this matter.

They have to pay 44 mil in cap hit, so if the budget is tight and they are weak at center it's not a bad gamble to take, with a new start I think he would be a much better player.
Gomez will be bought out for sure. Maybe Kaberle but certainly not Bourque
I'm with you on this. Gomez for sure after this season. Likely Kaberle but that depends if he can bounce back or not this season. The only way Bourque gets consideration is if he has another disasterous season. I think his contract is quite reasonable given his production the last few seasons. He's got another 48-50 games to prove him can bounce back.
With the new cap, Bourque, Kaberle, Gomez and probably Markov are not tradeable.
We're not the only team looking to give away some overpaid players.
Also, the team will suck this year. And next year too. Because he has the longest contract, and even though he didn't have that many games to prove himself, Rene Bourque should be the guy to buy out first.
bourque-eller-prust is gona be a solid line, why buy him out. Need i remind anybody who was coaching bourque??? Randy Cunneyworth, who was clearly brought in to tank the season!!!!!! Give him a chance with Therrien. I'm a die hard HABS fan but most of you guys are all pathetic

I sure hope Therrien doesn't put Eller on a line with Prust and Bourque.

So far Therrien's intentions is to put Eller on the wing with Plekanec and Gionta. There was an article a while back with that info. I hope it's not the case. Eller just hasn't worked on the wing as the position doesn't exploit his talents.

Whoever has the worse season this year.
Every player like Bourque and Kaberle are on a 48-50 game audition to keep their jobs.
Buyout the two that have the worse performance/$ ratio on your team.
It's not rocket science. In Montreal, that's Gomez and Bourque/Kaberle.

If it at some point in the season it is the third line I agree with you if it the fouth line then HABS MANAGEMENT are those who are PATHETIC. The way I see it they have plan for Prust you don't spend 2.5 M on a fourth liner and Bourque at 3.3M. Eller is the only one you name who has descent salary and he is the only one who is in game shape right now.
