I'm sure Giroux is fine, but had there been any news about him since he hurt his neck a while back?

Make Coburn captian. He's been here the longest. He's gonna play the most minutes. He's young enough but experienced to do it. And more than any other Flyer, he always defends his teammates.

I...like this idea. I think Coburn and Hartnell should be strongly considered for Captain, as much if not moreso than Giroux and Timonen

guys 1 thing I was thinking of, When Fehr worked on baseball's CBA he built a solid framework, and MLB just got a new CBA a few years ago and without having to miss any time, which was great.

So I wonder if this business model going forward will result in the NHL having quicker CBA results when CBA's end.

I like at least the thought but you know Giroux wants it...bad. He will be captain.

I despise Crosby, but he is a great captain. Leader off the ice and on it. Vocal and leads by example. It just so happens he has the best talent in the league. I hate when people compare richie situation to giroux. Two completely different players we are talking about. Giroux is already part of the leadership group of kimmo and briere. He is vocal in the room from what I've read and give his best every time he hits the ice. Also his work ethic is amazing. Contracts also is why I would give it to him. He is the best choice considering contract and age. Guy just screams flyers hockey!

I'm glad to see Jody Shelley have a chance to play one last year.

Giroux won the captaincy when he put Crosby on his butt and scored a goal.

Also one thing to remember: our PK should be much improved this season with Fedotenko and a seasoned Couturier. Hopefully L. Schenn rebounds strongly as well.

I wouldn't put the C on Giroux quite yet. There are a few guys I wouldn't mind seeing the C like Briere,Kimmo, and Hartsy with a slim chance. Giroux doesn't need it yet he's still a young guy and improving. Give it to Briere.

NHL just put this on its website, for some reason the Free agent tracker.

I can't remember if there were players who weren't unsigned prior to when bettman started lockout on sept 15.

but here is the list who signed and where they are playing

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=636656

this list is for those remaining free agents

Anyone else notice "Stefan Ruzicka" under Flyers Group 3? Probably has to do with some kind of FA thing I dont know about.

I did but I was more interested in your avatar.

Ruzicka's NHL rights are still owned by the Flyers but he's been in Russia since 2008 and I doubt he'll come back, was a decent winger though.

Laughton might get the 9 game trial if someone like Briere is still hurt.

He was at the rookie camp this summer. Having a really good year. I wonder how the UDFA signing works now. Do you have to wait until after the draft or can you sign guys after the camp?

Its up to the team if they want him in camp. McKenzie has been tweeting about guys but hasn't mentioned Laughton yet.

I could be wrong but I don't even think Coburn's been an Assistant Captain yet. Its a little surprising. He's been here a while and he's pretty vocal from what I know.

I get the feeling Gervais was signed to be the bottom pairing RHD and possibly PP guy. I remember before the lockout someone was mentioning there was an emphasis by the Flyers to have a RHD on the right side and not have a lefty playing the off side. I know Mez prefers to play the right side so we'll see what happens.

Crosby - yes, now. But was this true when they first gave him the C? I don't think so.

he's also a fringe player, so he'll need to battle to make the roster, Gus will give him a run for his money, my money is on Gus

my point is that just because he was signed it's no guarantee he makes the team, just ask OKT, Nolan Baumgartner, etc
