My idea is 46 games:
4 divisional = 16
2 conference = 20
1 against 10 from the west = 10
With the compressed schedule, traveling to opposite coasts is unrealistic.

If we do have 7 divisional games, the Flyers games could be HUGE!
If we stay perfect against them, we should be fine, and could even knock them out of a playoff spot

You do realize the Flyers will likely win a game against us at some point, right?

I would say the odds of that are less than 1%. Not because I don't want to beat the snot out of them, but because it's borderline impossible to beat the same team 10+ times in a row in hockey...

I agree 7 is just not fair to certain divisions - but there won't be any games against the west that's already been decided on from what I've heard. I think the format that makes most sense is 5 divisional and the other 28 within conference.

I wouldn't be surprised if they release a schedule featuring 7 divisional games, because more rivalry games = more gate sales, especially for some of the small market teams to make up lost revenue. In the end its ALWAYS about the dollar. If the fans haven't learned that by now....

Ofcourse

In recent years we've always about split the season with the Pens and Devils, and I don't expect that to change
The flyers though we've been destroying, and our games against them could be very important, depending on of this continues or not

And yet Winnipeg is still in the SE. Amazing.

So I assume we'll have 4 home games against two teams in the division, and 4 away games against two teams in the division?

Hopefully we have 4 home against PIT and PHI and 4 away against NJD and NYI (since those are essentially home games )

1. It gets us into the playoffs..
2. We get hot around game 50
Well we usually have a end of Feb-April hot streak (at least since 2006 we have). That would be great for us!

If season is 48 games, expect teams will play 3 games outside division and unbalanced within: 4 games vs. two teams, 5 games vs. two teams

Now, we're a week away from seeing him in live action.
Funny, feels like a million years ago to me!

Thank God this lockout is finally over.

Like others have said it should be, I do think however that he's the odd man out in the end.

I think Richards is safe barring a collapse do to his relationship with Torts.

I think Nash is safe considering we gave up assets to get him. Unless he's a complete dud which I don't think will happen.

If Richards and Nash really mesh and Kreider develops into a legit offensive threat then Gabby is as good as gone IMHO.

would you rather see Gabbys 40 goals or Staal moved for a big package? I rather keep both but the cap is going to be tight.

I really do want Gabby and Nash for 2 full yrs and cup runs

I was going to mention Staal but didn't want to deal with the subsequent backlash. He is a possibility in my mind too.

Neither of Gaborik or Staal are being traded this summer. The entire team will fit for 13/14 with the 64.3M cap. And if they need a million or two it won't be either of these guys who are dealt.

I do agree it is doable to move small parts and fit them under the cap for next yr. Just think they may entertain the idea. Was thinking when Staal is in the last yr of his deal we may see him moved to the Canes. It doesnt have to happen as maybe he loves NY and wants to stay longterm but having the other 3 Staals in Carolina may temp him eventually

I am seeing some correlations around 18 years or so ago to now... 93-94 rangers beat the devils in semis and go on to win the cup, lockout ensues and there is a 48 game schedule, then the devils win the 95 cup and go on to have great success in the nhl for many years, while the rangers are still a good team for a few more years then fall off until the next lockout (04-05)...11-12 devils beat the rangers in semis and don't win the cup (only difference), now what happens, if we follow the success the devils had for quite a few years I will be thrilled...how many cups did they win was it 3? That would be amazing, to win a cup this season and get a couple more in the next 10 years. HAHA one can dream, just making a comparison between the times and teams
