Not just that but if Burns & Demers (and maybe Braun) start the season injured and sitting in the press box, I would assume that would be considered an "emergency" situation...not that it really matters.

@KKurzCSN #SJSharks source tells me Jason Demers' injury is not a 4-to-6 week injury, as his agent says, and he won't miss much time. #SharksTalk

Comes up with exercise plan (to focus on certain areas, e.g., core) throughout season and off season. (And recovery from injury. Note, he is not a trainer nor works with doctors to "heal" guys.)

Works on diet for players (away from rink as well as working with caterer for all at rink meals).

Among other things.

That's crazy, if anything I thought Burns got better as the year went on. IMO he and Thornton were the the two best players in the St. Louis series.

I'm getting old and so my memory ain't what it used to be, but if I remember correctly I felt that his slap shot was non-existent for most of the year. Thinking back it may have been just the latter half and I think that would make some sense with a hernia and groin issue, regardless of how severe.

In fairness, Burnzie is more known for his wrister than his slapper.

I know he's no Hull, but he still seemed to have a nice long shot and that's still hard with those injuries.

But he is on the injury prevention/body wellness side, no?

Yeah, I think he scored like 2 slapshot goals in his career.
I agree with LZ though that his shot was nearly nonexistent by the second half and into the playoffs. Along with his hernia, I remember hearing that he had a hip injury which would affect his shot.

On the topic of Burns, is there any news of him not skating because he's injured, or just that he's not skating? If he was medically cleared in October, maybe he's just taking it easy. Like there isn't much news on Boyle skating, but that's just because he's taking it easy and working off the ice.

Boyle's been skating at Sharks Ice at least a few times a week since before the lockout started, so has Stuart. Marleau's been skating at Sharks ice as well as in different 'camps'.

Hernia's and Groins heal best with a lot of rest. I would think the more time not skating, but working out would be best in that situation. Even a tread mill would be better than skating when possible. My guess would be he's a go for opening day.

So, worst case scenario, if Demers and Braun are out to start the year....that leaves us with:

Burns-Boyle-Vlasic-Murray-Stuart-?????

about right?

Sounds about right, but Demers was injured almost a week ago and the season starts in about 2 weeks, so he may be ready after 2 or 3 games if things go right.

Worst case is more likely that Burns is out rather than Braun. All reports have said Braun is good to go, but Burns is up in the air.

For the record a sports hernia is not an actual hernia. It's a misnormer... It's actually a kind of groin tear, typically the aductor tendon. Only reason I know is because I had surgery to repair it a couple years ago by the same guy who does most of the Sharks players sports hernia surgeries. It's actually easier to skate than run with the injury so a tread mill is out as is any sort of work out other than rehab rubber band types of exercises. If it's actually torn no amount of rest will heal it, it's got to be fixed. It causes all kinds of other problems due to throwing the bodies balance off so drastically. While I was trying to play thru mine I repeatedly had back muscle strains and neck strains and ham strings pulls in the good leg. Never had these issues prior to the injury and they all this went away after surgery and it hasn't been a problem since. Yes it completely limits your ability to take a slap shop but that may depend on which leg is the problem. Originally injured it falling awkwardly into the boards while playing roller hockey.

Latest news regarding Burns
http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/nhl/playe...78QSfy3C_CfgM6

Hopefully he can start but hopefully he doesn't force himself to start if he's not at 100%.

Kevin Kurz ‏@KKurzCSN Demers wearing a half cast on his right wrist. Probably won't be ready if there is a game 1/19, but shouldn't miss much time.
