I'd rather give Harti a chance on LW instead of Eager.

It sucks that we can't even let both of them play in a couple preseason games to see which one looks better in that role...

Hall Hopkins Eberle
Yakupov Gagner Hemsky
Smyth Horcoff Jones
Hartikainen Belanger Petrell
Hordichuk Eager

Schultz Petry
Smid Schultz
Whitney Sutton/Potter
Peckham

Dubnyk
Khabibulin

I'd prefer Sutton over Potter if he is still available, but it's sounding like Sutton won't be ready. Can't wait to see Hartikainen work his way up the lineup.

Damn our defence is bad. Especially with Sutton hurt

There is no depth but it isn't that bad if Petry continues to improve and Whitney is healthy. They do need 1 more legit shutdown guy though...Potter isn't needed anymore and I don't have much faith in Peckham at this point.

I expect J. Schultz to struggle a bit defensively this year as well. He has been having defensive problems in the AHL recently. It won't get any easier in the NHL.

Depth is a huge issue though. One injury and we will have both Peckham and Potter in the lineup. Terrifying.

I wouldn't mind signing Commodore given Sutton's issues.

I wouldn't be against them throwing him on the second line to add some size, Yak or Hemsky could take his place on the third.

Yeah, this is a terrible D. If Whitneys name is even on it its worse. Peckham? lol. What other club in the league would continue to try to use this player?

I expect Smid and Petry to get exposed much more playing out of their depth. New Schultz is no defensive stalwart whatsoever. Old SChultz I'm still not sold on.

I suspect Yak will be, if he isn't already, the best natural goal scorer on the team. I really don't want to see him being centred by Horcoff or Belanger.

The D isn't great but it isn't as doom and gloom as you guys are saying. Take a middle of the road defensive team like Dallas and look at their D:

Goligoski, Robidas, Daley, Rome, Distric, Larsen, Dillon

You are telling me the Oilers D can't compete with that?

The addition of Schultz will be big in shifting the effectiveness of the Oilers D corps.

haha. You kill me. In the words of Ron Wilson, "always frickin negative."

I don't disagree with some of your post, but I NEVER see you post anything positive about anything.

N. Schultz is a solid bottom pairing guy. You have to at least admit that.

You think Peckham and Whitney should still be playing in the NHL?

Yes or no.

Wasn't aware N Schultz was pegged at "bottom pairing" lol.

Trouble with this squad is we have nobody that looks legit shutdown D pairing. ON a club that is perennially positionally undisciplined and that easily get running around.

In K Lowes famous words "We have a whole lot of D here".

Did Whitney fool around with a family member or something? I don't understand the hate you have toward him. If the guy is healthy he is a damn good player. 2 years ago he was scoring at a PPG clip until he got hurt.

Hall-Hopkins-Eberle, obviously.

I wouldn't mind Hartikainen/Hemsky-Gagner-Yakupov... I want to see Yakupov on the right wing. With Jones out for a few weeks I see Hartikainen up for a bit.

Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky/Hartikainen with Hemsky on the line it's got a little bit of everything.

Eager-Belanger-Petrel... Win the face-off. Pass the puck to the d-man. Skate upto the red line. Dump the puck. Hope that Petrel or Eager get there in time. Don't wait for Belanger.

Petry-Smid --- They were gangbusters for us last year. No way they're breaking up that chemistry.

Schultz-Schultz --- Their games complement each other very well.

Whitney- (PLEASE MAKE A TRADE AND DON'T FORCE ME TO WATCH POTTER OR PECKHAM HERE EVERY NIGHT) --- Really, which Whitney will we get this year?

Other than him being awful last year?

Is he recovered at all?

You think he has an extra step or continues to be the slowest slug in the NHL?

My interpretation is its stick a fork in it time with Whitney.

tbh I can't stand the jackarse after his comments during the lockout either.

I guess we'll see how it goes.

Whitney said last season he was playing but he was so bad he could barely train or anything. He wasn't even capable of doing a box jump.

This season he says he is much better.

so important to start strong. the good thing is, a majority of the oilers (especially forwards) all played.

I agree with your forward lines, but I dont see why you split up Smid-Petry who have chemistry and were playing well together to end last season.

Smid-Petry
N.Schultz-J.Schultz
Whitney-Potter/Peckham/Sutton(if available)

Too many people playing the right boards. RNH uses it to make plays and Yakupov uses it for one timers. Id put Harti/Smyth on the 1st to go infront and put Yakupov on 2nd with Hemsky creating playing off the half boards setting him up

I agree with you on peckham. But i still think whitney can be a very solid dman for us he had a bad year last year and a ton of injuries issues but if healthy i think he can be a good top 4 dman for us. Remember back before all the injury issues whitney was playing very well in both zones

Hall-Gagner-Eberle
Smyth-RNH-Yakupov
Hartikainen-Horcoff-Hemsky
Petrell-Belanger-Hordichuk
Eager

Smid-Petry
Schultz-Schultz
Peckham-Whitney
Potter

Dubnyk
Khabibulin

I know people won't like Smyth on the second line, but I feel much more comfortable with him there than Hemsky. Smyth gives that line a player who can dig out pucks from the boards, Hemsky wouldn't. RNH-Yak make a more dynamic duo than RNH-Hemsky imo. Hall-Eberle have good chemistry, and those two seem to get the best out of Gagner.

On D, Smid-Petry down the stretch last season had a string of good games defensively. They have to be given the chance to be top-pairing for this club for a whole season. Schultz-Schultz pairing makes sense, as N. Schultz can help defensively with J. Schultz. That leaves Whitney-Jobber D-man. It is what it is.
