FYI... in regards to some of the free-agents we've been mentioning.

Spector's Hockey ‏@SpectorsHockey

As per @BWildeCTV #NHL GMs cannot talk contract with free agents until new #NHLCBA is ratified on Tuesday. I assume same goes for trades.

Ehh, I'm not sure Arnott would be too good of an option. He really slowed down towards the end of last season.

I don't know if it's possible, but if we can invite him to our mini-training camp I'd do it.
If he plays well, sign him to a 1 year deal for ~$1 mil.

He's been playing pretty well of late, too - so hopefully he can translate that confidence to the highest level.

As a playmaker first, he could be ideally suited to line up with Booth. Higgins is also more of a shoot-first guy, too.

I don't get why you guys think Joslin will be called up. He's terrible, I'd take Rome or Alberts over him any day. The second dman has to be Connauton, especially given the two buyouts available, Keith Ballard should be on his way out. A left handed slot would be open for Connauton.

Joslin was signed to be a depth d-man for us, so I'm guessing the Canucks want to see how he does in training camp.

And Connauton just isn't NHL ready, plain and simple. He needs to spend the full season in the AHL.

I'm really pulling for schroeder to make the team. I just hope AV gives him a fair shake when training camp starts

Love the attitude he has had with this organization so far. Would love to see him get rewarded for all his hard work.

I think we need some asterisks and possibly "official" all in caps in this thread title.

Well, there ya go:

@Sportsnetmurph
#wolves coming for #canucks camp - Tanev, Connauton, Ebbett, Kassian and Schroeder. Frankie Corrado may get the call.

No Joslin as speculated. Hmmm...

Pinnozotto still injured I assume?

Playing devils advocate here, but I can see why Corrado isn't an instant invite. It would be lovely to see him but there is no way he cracks this roster this season unless Ballard is moved early.

Next, Corrado is a strong candidate to be traded this season and the trade deadline is Jan 10th. Do you take him off his new team for a week despite knowing his chances are slim? I guess it depends on what Branch does with the trade deadline; rumor was that he wanted to move it forward likely until the NHL submits their rosters for opening night.

Anyways, I hope to see him up here but I can see their reasoning for hesitation.

If the Canucks don't get a centre back in a Luongo deal (or any other transaction prior to the season starting), I'd bet $$$ that Lapierre would centre Hansen & Raymond on the 3rd line...and Manny would centre the 4th.

We shall see. It's just nice to discuss ACTUAL hockey!

Honestly, Canucks will be fine in the regular season without Kes. For 1-2 months, of course. Let him heal properly. Let JS play that role.

Add a plate for me. Did not think Connauton's body of work this year had been up to par, but mayhaps they are attributing that to Chicago's struggles as a team.

Anybody got a recent scouting report on the midget?

I think it will be a battle between the two; if Malhotra can regain his pre-injury form, it'll be his hands down. But Lapierre was pretty solid in the role during the 2011 playoffs and the duration of last year.

Don't think they should bother with Corrado. I like the kid, but he isn't making the team.

I think he could make some noise - might be able to edge out Connauton, at least - but he won't be beating out any of the regulars, that's for sure. It'd be more productive for the team to be patient with him and let him play out the year in the OHL.

Yeah, there is no way he plays for the Canucks this season.
I'd rather see him play well and develop in the OHL than play bottom pairing minutes and possibly get demolished in the NHL.

They could invite him to camp just to see where he is in his development and to give him a small taste of the NHL.

Okay. But, Connauton isn't making the team either.

I really don't think there's time for much experimentation in the shortened season. Ice a veteran lineup and get rolling ASAP.

No, he most certainly isn't. I think it's 99.9% that we see this...

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Garrison
Ballard - Tanev
Alberts

As our defensive unit to start.

My statement was more meant to reflect that it wouldn't surprise me to see Corrado leapfrog Connauton on the depth chart.

Might not be a bad idea...could get a good assessment of what areas he will need to focus on improving to make it to the show and still have a good chunk of the OHL season to do it.Also hoping he gets traded to contender for a good playoff run.

I cant see Ballard being on this team for much longer. Especially given the 2 amnesty buyouts.
